Summer 2023 Internship - Flight Sciences at Beta Technologies in SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vermont

Job Description:

BETA Technologies is seeking driven Engineering Interns with aerodynamic analysis, flight dynamics modeling, and simulation experience to help design the future of electric aviation. You will support vehicle design and analysis through all phases of the program, including conceptual sizing, modeling and simulation, and flight test validation. As an integral member of BETA's Flight Sciences team, you will work with dynamic, cross-functional groups to ensure the success of the aircraft through certification.

Summer Internships are primarily offered May-August. If your availability is outside of this timeframe, please communicate specifics in your cover letter.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:


    • Low and medium-fidelity aerodynamic analysis of propellers and aircraft.

    • Support component and vehicle-level modeling efforts, including model creation, integration, and test in 6 degree-of-freedom simulation.

    • Execute vehicle simulation studies to support subsystem requirements and test development.

    • Support generation of test cards and analyze flight test data to improve modeling accuracy of vehicle performance, stability, and control.

    • Run pilot-in-the-loop simulation studies to support handling qualities evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications we are seeking (your Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities):


    • Pursuing Bachelor's degree or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited University.

    • Demonstrated experience in areas such as aerodynamics, stability, and control (S&C) analysis, propeller design, propulsion analysis, airfoil design, and/or wind tunnel testing.

    • Conceptual understanding of fixed wing and rotorcraft systems to help drive holistic understanding of aircraft design considerations.

    • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python.

    • Strong ability to work both as a part of a team and as an individual.

    • Comfortable with a dynamic work environment and an ability to perform under pressure.

    • Strong desire to change the world of aviation forever!

    • Experience with Google G-Suite including Drive, Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Charts, Hangouts, and Slack.

Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you (preferred qualifications):


    • Proficiency in aerospace design tools such as AVL, XROTOR, XFOIL, and CHARM.

    • Experience with post-processing analytical and empirical data to create and/or improve aerodynamic databases and dynamical system models.
