The Pharmacy Technician (internal title: Pharmacy Program Assistant) supports Tailored Plan pharmacy benefit management (PBM) operations and resolves medication access issues for members and recipients.
This position will allow the successful candidate to work a primarily remote schedule. They will be required to work in the office 1 day per week, as approved by their supervisor, coming into either the Alliance home office in Morrisville, NC or our office in Charlotte, NC dependent on the selected candidate's home location.
Responsibilities & Duties
Support departments on medication related issues
Triage questions related to pharmacy benefits from Alliance Clinical Staff and Member Call center.
Utilize various clinical systems to assist in resolution and documentation of member and recipient medication access issues
Support the Care Management team members by assisting with medication reconciliation and medication history taking
Assist Member appeal and grievances resolution with member appeals by collecting supporting documentation
Provide Member outreach on medication related issues
Conduct member outreach, correspondence, and documentation to support the Controlled Substances Lock-In program.
Respond to to member Lock-In Pharmacy and Prescriber change requests
Research Encounter Claims issues
Research and resolve Medical and Outpatient Pharmacy Encounter claims rejections
Provide Administrative Support
Provide assistance to department head on calendar maintenance and scheduling, correspondence, note taking, and data-entry
Assist in developing training materials and educate staff on pharmacy benefits and updates
Assist the Pharmacy Director in collecting, reviewing, and submitting required PBM operational reports
Assist in keeping the Alliance Pharmacy Webpage and links up to date
Help to create and distribute Member, Prescriber, and Pharmacy communications
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
Associate’s degree in healthcare or business related field or graduation from a vocational/technical school in Pharmacy and five (5) years of experience as a pharmacy technician and/or experience in pharmacy benefits management, managed care, Medicare/Medicaid benefits.
Special Requirement
North Carolina Board of Pharmacy current registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Advanced knowledge of Pharmacy Practice (Retail, Hospital, Long-term Care)
Advanced knowledge and understanding of Pharmacy Practice laws and regulations
Advanced knowledge of medication names and uses
Administrative skills (use of MS Office software)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience using Excel or other data analytics software
Customer Service or Call Center experience preferred
Managed Care Medicaid or Medicare experience preferred
