Job Description:

The Bridge Inspection Group Manager will manage the planning, inspection and safety evaluations of state, agencies and locally owned bridges and review inspection reports. The group manager should possess NBIS certification with 10+ years of bridge safety inspection and/or design experience.

Responsibilities:


  • Work closely with the New Jersey team to coordinate and perform inspections, evaluate bridge and conditions and review reports, identify maintenance needs, properly code the structure inspections in electronic forms, load rating analysis, meet with clients to advise of priority maintenance items, and to ensure timely submission of inspection documents.
  • Lead, manage, and perform design and analysis as well as other structural engineering tasks for bridge inspection.
  • Oversee inspection teams, coordinate traffic control sub-contractors, schedule man-lifts and under-bridge cranes for inspections.
  • Use hand tools, ladders, under-bridge cranes and other equipment necessary for proper evaluation of bridges.
  • Travel is required to perform the inspections, with an occasional overnight stay, but the majority of the workdays involves working in an office setting with other inspectors and engineering professionals.
  • Thorough understanding of the project management requirements for leading bridge inspections, including the ability to properly scope and manage projects to established metrics for schedule and profit.
  • A firm commitment to Quality Control practices including QA review of inspections in the field and reports.
  • Lead marketing pursuits by developing concepts, attending marketing meetings, and providing technical guidance to proposals.
  • Determine direction and lead market awareness including involvement in professional associations and conferences.
  • Work with our Bridge Inspection Project Managers and Practice Leaders in the development of targeted client service action plans.
  • Manage client relationships and guide the application of Michael Baker International services within the bridge practice area to best serve the interests of the client and Michael Baker International.
  • Be responsible for successful contracting and project execution, working closely with regional Michael Baker International staff and office leadership.
  • A strong mentor of project teams and junior staff.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural emphasis, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10 - 15+ years of bridge inspection and/or design experience.
  • Hold a NJ and/or NY Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain within six months through reciprocity.
  • NBIS Certified Bridge Safety inspector.
  • Bridge Load Rating Experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with structural design software and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Fracture Critical FHWA-NHI course and inspection experience a plus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is approximately $125,000.00 - $140,000.00. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
