We are seeking a full-time Aviation Software Engineer - OEM Lead who is interested in developing software, providing technical leadership and project planning for Garmin’s Integrated Flight Deck for our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you’ll be responsible for serving in a leadership capacity to integrate Garmin’s products into the cockpits of industry-leading aircraft. You’ll write software in C and Python, configure the flight deck to meet your customer’s requirements, and integrate software for delivery to the customer. This role provides a customer-facing opportunity with aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in addition to software engineering responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Essential functions
Software development for safety-critical airframe specific and airframe independent functionality
Successfully managing OEM relationships, including: positive and proactive communication, understanding and advocating for requirements from customers, managing feedback, and ensuring expectations are appropriately calibrated with our OEM partners
Developing and maintaining high quality deliverables for our OEMs in alignment with their engineering, flight test, and production schedules
Familiarity and understanding of how Garmin Aviation’s product offerings come together as an integrated flight deck
Working cross functionally with Garmin’s program coordination, systems, system tests, human factors and flight operations teams to ensure all aspects of a program are tended to
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages
Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)
Demonstrates customer service skills and exudes servant leadership with internal and external customers
Demonstrates strong communication skills required to facilitate effective teamwork between various groups responsible for the success of an airframe program
Desirable qualifications
Previous work or internship experience, particularly in aviation
Work experience in a team environment
Experience with RTCA DO-178 software development and certification
Experience with systems engineering principles
Private pilot’s certificate
