The Position

Branchburg is the molecular diagnostics manufacturing engine within Global Operations and a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) center of excellence. As the largest DIA manufacturing site in North America, our teams deliver a broad portfolio of PCR-based in-vitro diagnostic tests. Our operations include reagent and active diagnostic ingredient (ADI) production, filling and packaging. Our 63-acre site with ~1400 people is currently under expansion, fueled by our culture of agility, innovation and transformation. Each day we focus on delivering the value of Roche Diagnostics to patients around the world.

The Senior Scientist - Technical Support/Investigations will be part of a fast paced team focusing on technical investigations including non-routine lab experiments, investigating issues as it relates to PCR assay and reagents as well as statistical analysis. Experience with technical writing, presentation of findings and exposure to regulatory agencies would be an asset.

Responsibilities:


  • Designs, plans and executes assigned production activities, research and/or development-related experiments/projects utilizing established batch records, or innovative procedures, and applying scientific knowledge and accumulated experience to complete projects. Contributes to the definition and timely achievement of overall project goals.


  • Makes recommendations, and when appropriate, acts independently to resolve scientific problems encountered during experimental procedures to improve productivity of results. Ensures activities are consistent with project critical path, and responds appropriately to changing priorities or schedules.


  • Accurately and consistently records production work or experimental methods, materials and results in production records, hard copy or electronic laboratory notebooks. Analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions and implements/documents process improvements.


  • Integrates previous and current results to determine next experimental steps and the impact of long-range project goals.


  • Presents findings at group or departmental meetings. Applies advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents. May assist in preparing summaries, memos, internal reports, presentations, manuscripts, etc.


  • Serves as a resource to other departments (e.g., Manufacturing/Operations, Development, Quality, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Studies, and International Technical Services), provides timely response and follow-ups. Participates in the expeditious transfer of products and technologies by providing scientific knowledge and assistance.


  • May or may not have supervisory responsibility; provides guidance to new team members and leads internal/external teams and builds professional relationships.


  • Work involves troubleshooting and resolving difficult problems in creative ways. Takes a new perspective on existing solutions, exploring and implementing new concepts and methodologies.


  • Decisions impact project team(s) and/or broader organization and could impact overall operations, financial expenses, or customer or user dissatisfaction.
     


Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.


  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience or general laboratory experience.


  • Ability to design and execute relevant laboratory experimentation.


  • Ability to recognize and resolve basic problems encountered in experimental procedure.


  • Ability to perform root cause investigations.


  • Experience with non-conformances.


  • Good written and verbal communication skills highly desirable.
