Definition of Classification:


The Manager, Web Content helps improve and maintain the University’s primary owned channel, redlands.edu. This integral role within the department focuses on furthering the University's brand and enrollment initiatives through the development of content optimized for the website and related digital channels that feed into it.  


Reporting to the Director of Web Strategy, this position ensures content consistency by providing guidelines, training, and support to web content editors across the institution. They will enhance and augment content in alignment with paid, earned, shared, and owned media. Using web analytics and insights, they will optimize content to meet target KPIs.


This position requires flexibility to work outside normal business house including evening, and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.



Duties and Responsibilities:


The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Performs exhaustive research to gain in-depth knowledge of all Redlands website visitor personas.

  • Creates specifications and content appropriate for the Redlands website visitor personas.

  • Develops content governance guidelines for tone, style, and voice of all content, and ensure they are followed.

  • Develops content strategy for consistency across all delivery platforms.

  • Collaborates with CMS editors, creative and editorial teams to implement the content strategy.

  • Optimizes content according to the latest Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices.

  • Ensures content meets latest accessibility standards.

  • Identifies and monitors KPIs to measure the effectiveness of content.

  • Conducts periodic content audits.

  • Oversees writing style and tone for key digital initiatives and web pages.

  • Understands and reports on content performance.

  • Develops a deep understanding of web user journeys and guide information architecture and content development accordingly.

  • Researches and helps implement the latest developments in personalized content trends and website visitor behavior.

  • Works with marketing, communications, admissions, and web colleagues to evaluate performance, facilitate tests and adjust strategies as needed.

  • Collaborates with external partners to optimize campaigns and key initiatives.

  • In partnership with communications, develops a plan for user-generated owned media content, including, but not limited to blogs.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.



Experience/Training/Education:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields.

  • Minimum 5 years with a preference for seven or more years of progressive responsible experience in brand development, digital marketing, or journalism with at least three years in a leadership position, preferably in higher education but not required.

  • A valid California Class C driver's license with a with a good driving record is required.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields preferred.

  • Prior experience as content strategist or content marketer.

  • Experience with content testing, personalization, and experimentation processes.

  • Experience working with Google GA4 platform.

  • Experience using Siteimprove.

  • Basic HTML and CSS skills.

  • Knowledge of UX/UI design principles.

  • Experience using Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with higher education environments and admissions recruiting.



Qualifications Guidelines



Knowledge and Skills:



  • Comprehensive understanding of and fluency across all popular social media channels, including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.

  • Ability to work across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong writing capabilities, understanding how to write specifically for each social media platform.

  • General knowledge of digital audio and video recording equipment, experience operating such equipment and experience with digital audio and video editing software.

  • Experience working cross-platform between Mac and PC environments; working knowledge of social media file conversion and specs/ratios.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that is subject to last-minute changes; organizational skills to manage multiple jobs simultaneously, all while working with fixed schedules and deadlines.

  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Working Conditions:


Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. This position requires flexibility to work outside normal business house including evening, and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.


Physical Demands:


Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
