What We Are Looking For:

The 3D Systems site in Littleton, Colorado is growing rapidly and needs a skilled Operational Excellence Champion to improve our processes and act as a leader of operational excellence. This position will be an integral part of the Continuous Improvement team, whose mission is to foster an Operational Excellence culture supported by harmonized Lean Six Sigma methodologies to sustain conversion. The role of Operational Excellence Champion will be responsible for the support of Kaizen Events in the development, planning and execution of Lean strategies, culture and metrics providing support to various levels throughout the entire organization for the purpose of linking project metrics to strategic objectives.

The scope of projects to be managed will range from internally-focused process improvements to cross-functional initiatives to implement process improvements under tight deadlines and high customer expectations. This position will require significant interaction with suppliers, customers, and our sister site in Leuven, Belgium.

As part of the Healthcare Solutions business of 3D Systems, the Littleton facility acts as a service bureau to enable customers without the expertise, capital, or desire to additively manufacture their products. We are experts in digital workflows, patient-specific devices, and five different kinds of 3D printing. The Manufacturing department serves our Advanced Manufacturing product line (both metal and plastics additive manufacturing), as well as 3D Systems' own Virtual Surgical Planning product offerings. What You Will Do:

The following performance objectives will determine job success for this position:

  • Initiate and champion lean initiatives: Own and champion a lean approach to improving our Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale performance. Implement Operations excellence continuous process improvement initiatives for lean deployment including but not limited to Value Stream Mapping, 5S, TAKT Time, lead time reduction, and cost reduction.
  • Develop Lean/ Operational Excellence Methodologies: Expand the site's competencies by developing and implementing Lean methodologies and tools tailored to the needs of the organization. Evaluate current processes, create new tools and work instructions, train the stakeholders to new tools and processes, and formally release documentation through Document Control. Coordinate and harmonize with colleagues in Leuven, Belgium for consistent application of best practices.
  • Manage Projects: Gather inputs, prepare schedules, marshal resources, and work with stakeholders to meet objectives. Using best practices and appropriate project management methodologies, manage schedule, budget, and scope. Track project progress at a detailed level, and report to management and (internal) customers. Escalate issues as needed. Proactively manage project performance and risk and maintain extensive project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Train and mentor 3D Systems Littleton: Provide leadership/ mentoring / training to all levels of the manufacturing, quality, production, engineering, and business teams on the use and practice of Lean methodology and tools. Mentor and develop teams and facilitate Kaizen events for other process owners.
  • Measure and Monitor: Establish KPI measurement and reporting capability for any measurements not currently in practice. Work with IT, Finance, HR, and Operations to develop measurement capability and improve data integrity. Advertise performance and opportunity, celebrate successes, and share insights with the broader organization.
  • Identify Areas of Opportunity: using VSM, data from systems of record, KPIs from above, and informal data, analyze business performance and determine where constrained process improvement resources should be deployed for maximum benefit. Manage and balance portfolio of needs against stakeholders in all areas of the business and prioritize efforts for continuous improvement.
  • Re-design Business Processes: Refine business processes that may not be tied to production, but which do affect the manufacturing organization as a whole. Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to determine the problem or opportunity, design the solution, and implement structural, procedural, and documentation changes to realize the benefit of the change.
  • What You Will Bring:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical field or Equivalent Work Experience Required
    • Certified Lean/ Six Sigma Black Belt required
    • PMP or similar project management coursework/ certification preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

    • Expert proficiency in the use and implementation of Lean tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis, SQDCP, TAKT, Kanbans/ Pull Systems, Single Piece Flow, Eight Wastes, 5S, Poka-Yoke, PDCA, Total Quality Management, and KPI's.
    • 8 years of experience providing Lean Project Management support to manufacturing operations in a highly regulated industry.
    • The successful candidate will have a track record of technical and project leadership accomplishments that show they are able to make good technical judgments and lead complex, mission-critical projects.
    • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service (both internal and external) are a must. This position will involve significant supplier and customer interaction.
    • Experience in additive and subtractive manufacturing, 3D modeling and design, and process improvement are a plus.
    • A background in the medical device industry and extensive knowledge of ISO13485, particularly design controls, production controls, and process validation would also be beneficial.
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.

    • Hourly Rate: $85,500 - $119,800 annually (salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate, and alignment with market data).
    • In addition to a salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based upon company performance.
    • 3D Systems offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental and vision coverage, company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance, and company-paid basic life insurance.
