Staff Software Engineer, Augmented Intelligence Services – Hybrid at Best Buy in Richfield, Minnesota

Job Description:

The Augmented Intelligence Services team is responsible for a portfolio of mission critical systems that power customer-facing experiences on Bestbuy.com as well as associate-facing experiences in the stores. These systems require multiple areas of specialization such as Search, Distributed Services, Big Data platforms, Cloud, Infrastructure, and more. We work with emerging technology solutions including Google Cloud Platform, Messaging, OpenShift, NoSQL, DocumentDB, Redis, Spring, Java, Kotlin, REST-based web services.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Augmented Intelligence Services team, you'll lead software design and development efforts to build and launch shared services in support of the Augmented Intelligence Services space and other teams across Best Buy. In this role, you'll be a key leader on our team, helping drive outcomes, partnering with other engineering and product teams and stakeholders throughout the organization. You'll drive complex problem solving and be encouraged to recommend solutions.

Ideal Candidates should have:


  • Experience working closely with product managers and other teams to lead feature implementation and identify solutions when appropriate.

  • A desire to go above and beyond basic requirements to support their team and others.

  • A history of evaluating and recommending libraries, solutions, and frameworks that help improve quality, speed of delivery, and outcomes.

  • A history of delivering projects on time and working to make accurate estimates that can be delivered upon.

  • A good understanding of architecture that allows them to influence multiple systems or processes.

  • The ability to articulate engineering design patterns related to scale, performance, security, and usability.

  • Experience with full stack of modern web technologies and frameworks (React, Node, Java, Kotlin, Spring etc.)

  • Proficiency in multiple no-sql data storage capabilities such as Cassandra, Solr, and MongoDB

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform)

  • Exposure in the delivery of applications and services leveraging containers (such as Kubernetes and AWS EKS)

  • Expertise in the integration of applications leveraging REST, GraphQL, or message-based integrations using queuing technologies such as RabbitMQ and Kafka.

  • Knowledge of and working experience with open-source software as well as networks, security, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and other infrastructure components

  • Experience in test driven development, continuous integration, and deployment practices

  • Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional projects


*** Best Buy Digital, Analytics and Technology teams are working in a hybrid work model. Most roles can predominantly work from home but the person who fills this role must be within a commutable distance to Richfield, MN, Seattle, WA, Atlanta, GA, or Boston, MA

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 5 or more years of professional full-stack software development experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience.

  • 5 or more years of experience with Object Oriented Software to include Java, Kotlin, and modern front-end frameworks like React or Angular.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • 7 or more years of relevant professional experience.
