What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?

Our Abingdon, Virginia staff is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and collections system, including remote pump stations. If you enjoy working outdoors protecting nature’s precious resource, water, this position is for you.  Candidates utilize basic mechanical and pumping equipment repair skills and have experience with electrical systems to provide maintenance and repair around the facility.   Our operators participate in an “on call” rotation for plant coverage outside normal workday hours and shifts will include weekends. In addition, operators will be required to respond to emergency situations and work in inclement weather as needed.

What will you need to succeed?


  • Virginia Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License, preferred, or the ability to obtain through the operator’s exam or reciprocity.


  • 1-3 years’ experience in a wastewater treatment facility, operation, and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education.


  • Experience in the operation and maintenance pumps, compressors, and plumbing fixtures.


  • High School or trade school diploma is required.


  • A valid Virginia motor vehicle operator's license.


  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in wastewater treatment work.


  • Knowledge of computer applications.


  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply instructions, drawings, and specifications for work assigned.


  • Must be able to lift or move up to 40 lbs on a regular basis.

The salary ranges given below are a national average only and may be different for this role based on specific collective bargaining agreements or contract requirements.

Please reference this project specific pay range instead.  In addition, for facilities that are unionized and receive benefits through the union, the benefits may differ from what is listed.

Project Specific Pay Range: $23-$30/hour depending on experience

Compensation

Pay:

This position’s anticipated pay range is provided below; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials are used to recognize and reflect cost of labor differences between geographic markets.

Annual Incentive Bonus Opportunity:

Eligible positions may receive an annual cash bonus based on the role’s organizational level, and is represented as a percentage range of eligible earnings** 

Pay Range

$15.96 - $23.94

  • Vacation time is provided to full and part-time regular employees. Vacation is accrued, based on number of hours worked per week as well as prior years of experience.
