Responsible for the engineering effort associated with the design, development and improvement of products and their manufacturing preparation. Acts as a liaison between sales, engineering and operations to ensure customers' needs are met with consideration for engineering and plant staff time limitations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Design, develop and improve new and existing product lines using appropriate engineering practices.
Serve as a key design resource to sales and marketing.
Manage strategic design development projects for key customers.
Develop and improve design process with sales, marketing and target customer segments.
Coordinate with appropriate vendors mold engineering, construction and delivery.
Function as a technical resource with approval / reject authority with operations, quality assurance, sales and customers on CQV activities.
Create and manage Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) for mold related activities.
Interact with vendors regarding products and equipment, including product specifications, order details, pricing and equipment selection.
Assist plants with technical problems associated with packaging.
Assist operations with techniques to improve production and/or efficiency.
Visit customers/plant locations as required to develop relationships necessary to satisfactory completion of projects.
Experience and Educational Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent GED
Bachelor's degree in Engineering: either mechanical, electrical, packaging or industrial design
Minimum 5 years experience in plastics part design and manufacturing.
Working knowledge of statistics preferred.
Abilities Required
3D CAD Proficient (Catia V5)
Graphic Design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, 3D Studio Max)
2D CAD Proficient (AutoCAD)
Versed in mechanical drafting techniques
General business software knowledge including spreadsheet (MS Excel), word processing (MS Word) and presentation (MS Power Point).
Project scheduling (MS Project).
