Job Description:

Job Purpose



Responsible for the engineering effort associated with the design, development and improvement of products and their manufacturing preparation. Acts as a liaison between sales, engineering and operations to ensure customers' needs are met with consideration for engineering and plant staff time limitations.



Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Design, develop and improve new and existing product lines using appropriate engineering practices.


• Serve as a key design resource to sales and marketing.


• Manage strategic design development projects for key customers.


• Develop and improve design process with sales, marketing and target customer segments.


• Coordinate with appropriate vendors mold engineering, construction and delivery.


• Function as a technical resource with approval / reject authority with operations, quality assurance, sales and customers on CQV activities.


• Create and manage Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) for mold related activities.


• Interact with vendors regarding products and equipment, including product specifications, order details, pricing and equipment selection.


• Assist plants with technical problems associated with packaging.


• Assist operations with techniques to improve production and/or efficiency.


• Visit customers/plant locations as required to develop relationships necessary to satisfactory completion of projects.

Experience and Educational Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent GED


• Bachelor's degree in Engineering: either mechanical, electrical, packaging or industrial design


• Minimum 5 years experience in plastics part design and manufacturing.


• Working knowledge of statistics preferred.

Abilities Required

• 3D CAD Proficient (Catia V5)


• Graphic Design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, 3D Studio Max)


• 2D CAD Proficient (AutoCAD)


• Versed in mechanical drafting techniques


• General business software knowledge including spreadsheet (MS Excel), word processing (MS Word) and presentation (MS Power Point).


• Project scheduling (MS Project).
