Task Description: Aircraft Mechanic III (23023):

Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

Additional Qualifications:

• This position participates in all structural modifications that occur onsite and is responsible for verifying all QA inspections are performed and work is accomplished IAW Contractor developed instructions, worksheets and TCTO-861. The Aircraft Mech-III must possess extensive experience in depot level aircraft structural modifications, be able to interpret Technical Directives, referenced OEM drawings and service instructions. The Aircraft Mech-III shall also be trained in utilizing specialized tools such as drill guides, angle drills and protective devices used to prevent damage to underlying structure. The Aircraft Mech-III must be trained and qualified through an approved or accredited military or civilian airframe structural repair course.

• A minimum of seven-years of experience in aircraft sheet metal maintenance is required.

• A minimum of one Aircraft Mech-III per CFT will be Airframe and Power Plants (A&P) certified.

Skills and Knowledge: The Contractor shall be able to provide Depot level aircraft structural maintenance support for the USAF T-6A Texan trainer aircraft. Must possess extensive experience in depot level aircraft structural modifications, be able to interpret Technical Directives, referenced OEM drawings and service instructions.


  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, Air Force aviation maintenance programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.

  • Aircraft Mechanic III shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.

  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.

  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.

  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.

  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

Task Requirements:


  • Perform Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) 1T-6A-861 and Service Instruction (SI) T-6-0421 to install structural components.

  • Perform maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means

  • Corrosion control

  • Technical Directive compliance and modifications

  • Tool control and upkeep

  • Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention

  • Use Personal Protective Equipment as appropriate for task(s)

  • Use HAZMAT as appropriate for task(s)

  • Perform general housekeeping

  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Ten or more years’ experience in aircraft sheet metal maintenance

  • Five or more years’ maintenance experience on T6 aircraft

  • FAA Airframe and Power Plant license

Basic Qualifications:


  • Must possess extensive experience in depot level aircraft structural modifications, be able to interpret Technical Directives, referenced OEM drawings and service instructions.

  • Shall be trained in utilizing specialized tools such as drill guides, angle drills and protective devices used to prevent damage to underlying structure.

  • Must also be trained and qualified through an approved or accredited military or civilian airframe structural repair course.

  • Minimum of seven-years of experience in aircraft sheet metal maintenance is required.

  • Must be able to work 1st or 2nd shift schedule if required.

  • Must be able work flexible work-week schedules i.e. M-F or as required.

  • Must be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC).

  • Must be able to obtain favorable National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI).

  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.

  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
