Housing Specialist -- Maple Street Shelter 2.0 at LIFEMOVES in Redwood City, California

Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Housing Specialist works with LifeMoves clients located in our new Maple 2.0 shelter site. The Housing Specialist will conduct outreach in the community to build relationships with landlords and provide housing search education in the form of 1:1 counseling, facilitating educational workshops, providing landlord/tenant mediation. The Housing Specialist is required to be flexible and create/implement housing plans with the client that is tailored to their needs. The position requires candidate to work independently, and collaboratively as a team with the ultimate goal of increasing housing opportunities for the agency and placing program participants in permanent housing options. This position requires knowledge of San Mateo County (and surrounding areas) housing market trends, fair housing, landlord/tenant rights, and a strong understanding of the leasing process.


  • Prefer Undergraduate degree

  • Professional experience in real estate and property management is strongly desired

  • Be able to support with increasing income through employment and knowledgable of employment/county/state benefit programs

  • Demonstrated ability working with individuals and families from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds 

  • Must be computer literate; internet savvy, experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfortable presenting in front of groups

  • Perform other duties Director may need support with

  • Strong organizational, detail oriented, and time management skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively as part of a collaborative team.

  • Display a high level of initiative and commitment towards completing duties efficiently

  • An understanding of ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion; and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area.

  • Knowledge of San Mateo County and Santa Clara County resources strongly desired.

  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance.
