Job Description:

Amsted Rail-Granite City is seeking Electrician Apprentice Applicants who are willing to make productive contributions with on-the-job training combined with classroom education.

The Electrician Apprentice works as support to the A-Electricians within the Amsted Rail-Granite City facility.  You will assist with the preventive maintenance, repair, installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of many different pieces of production equipment as well as supporting building maintenance and the electrical distribution system.  You will work under the supervision of the A-Electricians and the Electrical Manager.  In addition, you will be required to attend electrical classes during this apprenticeship and your journey to become a Maintenance Electrician-A.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED


• Be able to demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and mechanical aptitude


• Be able to pass the company's regular post-offer medical examination, drug screen, and meet the physical qualifications necessary to do the work of the trade.

• Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of indenture or complete an approved parent/guardian waiver.

• Be able to maintain attendance and dependability

Classroom Courses will be held at the IBEW Local 309, Collinsville, IL. The term of the apprenticeship of the trade is 8,000 hours. 

Apprentices under this program will be selected by the Local Plant Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Applicants who meet the qualifications will take aptitude testing at the IBEW Local 309 Testing Center.  Those who meet or exceed the minimum standards will be scheduled for an interview with the Local Plant Joint Apprenticeship Committee.  The Committee will then make their selection from that group.
