Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. is seeking an I nternational Logistics Manager to join our team located in Hampton, NJ. This role is responsible for leading international logistics execution and is focused on day-to-day operation, sourcing, development, review, and execution of key logistics initiatives/practices across the organization. The operational scope includes optimization of delivery schedules, transportation mode selection, and routing of cargo that minimizes risks for costs and delays. Accountable for developing sound logistics strategies and must work closely with external transportation specialists to design optimal routing and on-time delivery of cargo. Reviews transportation networks to improve service, mitigate risks, and reduce logistics costs. Manages the international logistics team. The position requires a hands-on leadership style, and the ability to influence and effectively communicate vertically, horizontally and across functions and divisions. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, analytical, sourcing & negotiation skills, excellent verbal, and written communication skills with attention to details, financial acumen, and foster close relationships with peers and key vendors/suppliers. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Drive efficiency and effectiveness, deliver operational excellence, reduce costs, drive business profitability, and mitigate Company's risk in third party relationships associated with customs brokerage and logistics services. - Work with Associate Director Logistics and senior business segment management in developing sourcing strategies in support of the strategic priorities of supply chains. - Work with regional logistics and customs brokerage services providers to coordinate and execute the entire transportation process (and quoting through delivery) of freight cargo from origin to destination - inbound US/China/Europe, outbound US/China/Europe; this involves working extensively with vendors and customers; proficient in handling DG (class 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 8) cargo in all modes of transport (air, ocean, rail, intermodal). - Create comprehensive transportation budgets that will be used in sales proposals. - Work with the internal and external stakeholders to develop logistics plans that are focused on risk mitigation, yet mindful of budget. - Work on technical evaluation of complex transportation solutions for plant equipment. - Responsible for tracking of ISO containers and chassis. - Plan identifying areas of risk and review critical shipments with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that sufficient allowances in cost and schedule are made and that a sound plan is in place. - Leads/supports direct negotiations with transportation providers on rates, service, and capacity. - Provides strategic leadership & execution management of the logistics team. Hires, develops, and trains the international logistics team. Assists for operational resolution of complex logistical and customs issues in the US and abroad. Reports operational performance to Associate Director Trade Compliance and Logistics. - Develops and implements strategies that support cost/service continuous improvements. - Develops and influences the development of standards, metrics, processes, and practices within the logistics function. - Establishes and maintains clear communication with contacts across the various functions and business units; fosters close relationships with key vendors/suppliers. Collaborates on network design / KPI initiatives. Reports functional performance to Associate Director Trade Compliance and Logistics. - Networks in industry and community. - Analyzes and reports data to identify opportunities to achieve established objectives. Advises management on transportation innovations that will improve performance. - Facilitate the end-to-end sourcing process from needs identification and strategy development through request for proposal and contract negotiation; leading negotiations and overseeing the administration of contracts for logistics services ensuring appropriate contractual clauses are in place to minimize Company's risk. - Keep abreast of best practices and take steps to ensure that the Company is implementing such practices where appropriate and develop guidelines, policies, and standards for logistics services. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS This position reports to the Associate Director Trade Compliance and Logistics. Incumbents in this position may provide direction to supply chain management teams but have no direct supervision of them nor do they have other people management responsibility. Position will work cross functionally with Procurement, Plant Operations, Plant Logistics, Customer Service, Sales, Finance, Business Development and Product Management. Must possess skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving, and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Position requires the ability to effectively manage supply chain logistics projects. - 10 + years Global experience within cargo management with some experience in DG; freight forwarding experience preferred. - Extensive International experience in all modes of transportation - FCL, LTL, multimodal, rail, air. - Experience in route optimization. - Overseas operational logistics experience in logistics execution preferred. - Expertise in international trade and export/import regulations within North America, Europe, Far East. - Strong logistics team management skills. - Ability to handle daily tasks and projects independently. - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. - Experience with Commercial Contracts. - SAP experience. - Technical, Supply Chain, or Logistics degree and MBA desirable.
