Job Description:

Duties:

Provide engineering assistance for hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic analysis to assess conveyance capacity of hydraulic structures and canal systems. Assist Project Manager in engineering design, risk assessment of hydraulic structure operations, and hydraulic impacts of sea level rise to water control structures.  Review and analyze flow data and historical data at the structures in South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Analyze and assess errors associated with the collected data. Assist Project Manager to perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) flow analysis and flow data generation. Prepare structures AutoCAD configurations, hydraulic boundary conditions, flow simulations, data post-processing and CFD analysis. Analyze significant factors affecting flow at the SFWMD structures including spillways, weirs, pump stations and culverts. Examine and analyze different flow computation methods at these structures, perform streamgauging analysis to calibrate, develop, and improve rating equations for hydraulic water control structures, such as spillways, culverts, weirs and pumps at inland and coastal regions and stormwater treatment areas, and make suggestions to calibrate or verify rating equations. Assist the Project Manager to perform data collection/analysis and model pre-processing. Collect model data, prepare model geometry, as-built analysis, prepare boundary condition and model setup. Assist the Project Manager to perform open-channel hydraulics, seepage and sediment transport model analysis using MATLAB, VBA, one-dimensional (HEC-RAS) and two-dimensional (HEC-RAS, ADH, SMS, CFD, MODFLOW or other hydraulic models) and/or three dimensional CFD models. Tasks include, steady flow water surface profile computations, one- and two-dimensional unsteady flow simulations, sediment transport computations, backwater effect, two- and three-dimensional flow field analysis, vegetation impact analysis, dam break analysis, levee breaching and overtopping, risk assessment and scour study. Assist the Project Manager to perform model results post-processing and report preparation.  Perform time series analysis, impact analysis, sensitivity analysis, flow field analysis, water surface profile calculations, statistical analysis, and mapping.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related field, plus at least one year of related experience. Must have had coursework in water resources, hydrology, and hydraulics. Experience required with statistical analysis, computational methods, AutoCAD, and CFD analysis for water resources. Must have experience with MODFLOW, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, Tecplot, and post-processing software.
