Job Description:





Title: Student Campus Safety Officer (CSO)





Unit: Student Employment, Learn and Earn Program





Department: Administration - Public Safety





Reports To: Director of Safety and Campus Operations

General Summary: The Student Campus Safety Officers will assist in providing a safe, secure, and peaceful campus environment. Student Campus Safety Officers are unarmed, uniformed students at Middlesex Community College who have successfully completed courses in the Criminal and Social Justice Department who are hired to perform routine patrols around the premises on foot. Additionally, Student Campus Safety Officers execute a variety of duties while on patrol in order to maintain and preserve a high level of safety within Middlesex Community College. These duties include, but are not limited to; conducting building checks, monitoring hallways and common spaces, providing escort services for faculty, staff, & students to and/or from their vehicles while parked on MCC property or in Lowell city garages or between MCC properties on the Lowell campus, and patrolling walkways and parking areas on College property.





Duties and Responsibilities:





  • Enforce campus policies and procedures as may relate to safety and security concerns

  • Make regular inspection tours of the campus facilities noting unusual occurrences

  • Observe and report hazardous conditions to the Director of Safety and Campus Operations

  • Ensure only authorized persons are admitted to the campus while on duty

  • Direct visitors and assist said visitors as necessary

  • Enforce campus policies including prohibition of smoking, alcohol usage, and drug usage

  • Observe weather conditions on campus and report dangerous or unusual weather-related activity to the Director of Safety and Campus Operations

  • Provide awareness education/information on an informal basis to students and employees as needed/requested






Requirements:





Minimum Qualifications:





  • Must have successfully completed the Contemporary Policing course within the Criminal and Social Justice Department - course will be offered fully online during the Winter 2023 session. CRJ121-W30 from January 3 through January 20, 2023.

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week

  • Complete a successful background investigation

  • Have no criminal convictions

  • Possess customer and personal service skills

  • Able to read and understand written and oral instruction and communicate information

  • Strong written and oral communications

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and members of the public

  • Have strong organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Able to work independently

  • Must regularly stand or walk for extended periods of time

  • Able to mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in area of responsibility






Additional Information:




This is a part-time student position through the Learn and Earn Program.





Salary Range: $20.00 per hour





Location: Lowell Campus





Hours: 8 hours per week; schedule to be determined upon hire





Expected start date: January 17, 2023
