Position Summary
This position will be part of FEC focusing on military and commercial projects and will be responsible for the design and development of electrical hardware and software.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare contract engineering submittals, reports, procedures, design drawings, and bills of materials.
Review and update electrical drawings, manuals/schematics, P&IDs and instrumentation drawings as required.
Prepare interconnect drawings for integrated systems.
Provide test stand support which includes troubleshooting electrical and control systems and factory acceptance testing.
Assist manufacturing with design related assembly issues.
Attain proficiency in the design and troubleshooting.
Ancillary work will include temporary assistance for other engineers, sales proposal work, Field Service, and other related tasks.
Sit in the kick-off meeting with Engineering Manager, Project Engineer, Design Draftsman and Sales Engineer, if applicable.
Assign work to Design Draftsman and Co-op Engineers as required.
Make necessary design calculations and submit to Engineering Manager for approval.
Advise Engineering Manager of any design issues and develop possible solutions.
Create and maintain controls hardware and software for standard products and evaluate future options for improvement.
Prepare necessary customer approval drawings and detailed hardware drawings as required.
Prepare detailed software including PLC and HMI programs.
Prepare necessary forms to purchase and / or fabricate all items required and ensure that all long lead items are purchases promptly.
Observe shop progress daily and advise Engineering Manager as to any problems that exist or possible problems that might exist and the potential corrective action.
Coordinate field electrical installations and advise the Engineering Manager and Project Engineer of any equipment installation problems and the potential corrective action.
Attend all necessary coordination meetings with the customer as required.
Coordinate all field installation functions such as Ordering all field equipment rentals, prepare tool lists and coordinate their delivery, coordinate with field installation as required
Provide debug, start-up and standby assistance as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements
BS in electrical engineering with emphasis in controls and/or power is required
Minimum 5 years work experience related to electrical power and controls design and debug
Must have PLC programming experience using Allen Bradley product both writing code from scratch products both developing new code and modifying existing code
Must have Autocad or Autocad Electrical experience for hardware design and detailing
Must be able to process engineering change orders, change requests, and bill of materials
Previous EMI experience a plus
Previous material handling experience a plus
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required
Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required
