Job Description:

Amsted Rail has an immediate opening for a Purchasing Agent at its operation in Granite City, Illinois.

This position manages the activities pertaining to, but not restricted to assigned procurement duties to support production and customer requirements.

• Monitors, and maintains procurement activities and duties in compliance with Amsted policies


• Negotiate directly with vendors to get the best possible pricing and payment options


• Manage inventories to optimize working capital goals/objectives, and develop solutions to improve product availability to support customer requirements


• Develop initiatives to reduce costs for products and services


• Collaborate with vendors to pitch new products to operations team


• Resolve disputes with suppliers & contractors


• Act as Team Leader in assigned projects as required

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field


• Minimum of 3 years of procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment


• Strong problem solving and analytical skills


• Demonstrative skills in procurement activities, negotiation skills, and a general understanding of procurement.


• Experience in interacting with several departments and leading cross functional teams and projects.


• High energy individual, self-starter, results focused, and shares ideas.


• Excellent written, oral, communication, leadership and organizational skills


• Proficiency with Microsoft office, especially Excel


• SAP or similar ERP experience


• Working knowledge of contractual language
