Summary

The role of the Senior Manager, PMO will lead a team of 8-12 I/S team members (program managers, project managers, and scrum masters) in extending value through our IT projects and delivery services at Medline. The Senior Manager will support our team in deploying project/program management practices, governance standards, processes, and metrics, ensuring projects/programs are defined, scheduled, tracked and communicated in a consistent and effective manner. This is a hybrid role (2X a week) with the office being in Libertyville, IL.

This Senior Manager will report to the Director of the PMO as we continue to expand our leadership team. This leader will lead and manage critical delivery operations within the PMO and Medline including:
• The Information Services (I/S) "Portfolio" - Ownership of the active projects, intake, roadmaps for all the work within this portfolio. These are typically IT-funded and led projects (as opposed to "business"-funded or led projects). This manager will take point on the key leadership relationships, escalations, planning and overall customer satisfaction for this portfolio.
• Key PMO Process leadership - To support our operating plan and continue our mission to drive more value out of our delivery services, this leadership position will own key processes such as I/S Resource Capacity management, Internal Chargeback management, offshore delivery alignment, and potentially other delivery processes and governance strategies.

Responsibilities

• Serves as direct manager to 8-12 project managers and scrum masters who lead delivery within portfolios tied to business units at Medline.
• Directs, coaches, and mentors staff in areas of responsibility, including program management tools and techniques.
• Participates in department personnel strategies - recruiting, retention, hiring, performance coaching, corrective action, and career development.
• Provides escalation support for project delivery issues.
• Provides oversight of project portfolios, including assessment of cross-project risk and resource conflicts.
• Works with PMO Director to optimize Medline's project delivery strategy including improving how we track and manage project capacity and project demand.
• Provides leadership with internal IS process and business sponsors on prioritization of projects, participates in continuous improvement efforts to gather requests, implement actionable plans, and set expectations.
• Participates in long range planning, helps identify gaps in resource and skill needs.
• Provides guidance and input to Project Managers in all components of projects, including project resource/staffing options, balancing critical internal resources across projects and facilitating external sourcing where needed.
• Recognizes need for process changes within department, provides leadership and effectively drives process change efforts; incorporates effective change and risk management controls.
• Drives standards and methodologies across all types of activities and teams as they relate to project/program management; ensures methodologies promote quality deliverables in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
• Stays current with variety of approaches used in the industry. Facilitates the tailoring of new methodologies to the environment as needed.

Position Preferences

Formal Education & Certification
• Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.

Knowledge & Experience
• 12 years of progressive project management experience.
• 3 years of managerial experience leading a PMO team of project and program managers
• Deep project/program planning and implementation background; demonstrated success delivering major/mission critical projects, including all aspects of process development and execution.
• Demonstrated IT leadership skills with heavy PMO interaction.
• Experience leading teams through change. Strong familiarity and experience (preferred) transforming organizations from waterfall to agile delivery.
• Demonstrated skill implementing process improvement efforts.
• Experience measuring and governing key PM processes (e.g., project life cycle, portfolio management)
• Demonstrated experience successfully leading a team of Project Managers; demonstrated ability to discern talent and proactively manage and mentor professional staff.
• Strong understanding of project financials, chargebacks, etc.
• Experience or expertise with SharePoint, Excel and Jira.
• Experience collaborating Senior Business stakeholders, Executive Leaders in a highly evolving, rapid-moving organization
• Demonstrated experience to lead through constantly shifting scope, budgets, and priorities.
