Get to Know This Role

The Plant Utilities department's mission is to provide, maintain, and support high-quality water, chemicals, and CIP (clean-in-place) for the successful production of Sierra Nevada's world-class beer. The Plant Utilities Tech 2 role supports multiple areas within the brewery such as wastewater treatment, chemical inventory, CIP support, well water, and boilers and cooling towers, according to SNBC standards. This role provides necessary support to the brewery and is expected to troubleshoot, repair, and identify solutions for technical issues.

What You Will Do



  • Assist with the monitoring and control of the wastewater treatment plant, including water analysis, sludge profiling, assisting with flare inspection, and operation of the waste sludge centrifuge

  • Assist in monitoring chemical delivery systems throughout the facility; measure and maintain chemical inventory; receive and transfer chemicals throughout the brewery; troubleshoot/rebuild chemical delivery systems; and perform chemical purchasing and inventory management tasks

  • Conduct CIP audits, log data, and conduct follow-ups as needed; perform cleaning additive additions as needed; troubleshoot CIP issues; assist with microbiological problem solving

  • Assist with CIP of deaerated (DA) water system; perform DA system hot sanitize; perform weekly DA DO checks

  • Test and maintain water softeners; ensure all process and utility water systems are operating properly

  • Perform boiler and heat recovery unit (HRU) checks; observe and troubleshoot HRU operation; test and maintain chemical delivery systems; conduct periodic water testing and suggest/perform adjustments

  • Assist with cooling tower cleanouts and water testing; test and maintain cooling tower chemical delivery systems; conduct periodic water testing

  • Conduct weekly inspections of tank tops; assist in/coordinate rebuilding of tank tops; perform cleaning machine testing

  • Perform area owner GMP activities; serve on Safety Committee as assigned

  • Assist with SOP development and review; analyze and interpret departmental data

  • Participation in on-call rotation is required

  • 3 years Chemical handling and testing required and

  • 3 years Lab analysis required and

  • 3 years CIP monitoring and troubleshooting required and

  • 3 years Experience in a brewery or manufacturing environment required and

  • 3 years Basic mechanical repair experience required




  • Mechanical and technical aptitude

  • Working knowledge of brewing and CIP systems

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Competency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Office 365)

  • Understanding of the purpose and interactions of brewery cleaning chemicals




  • Forklift Certification within 90 Days required

  • Water Distribution System Operator License Level D1 within 1 Year preferred
