Job Summary/Responsibilities
Our Quality Department is seeking a new team member that is a self-starter with good time management, multitasking, and reporting skills. The incumbent will work in a heavy industrial environment inspecting and testing steel plate as a Quality Inspector. Working from production orders, quality control instructions and other quality documents, you will verify that all QC and QA requirements are met, maintain logs, complete inspection reports, and take actions to maximize the value of rejected material. The Quality Inspector will support operations in a variety of manufacturing settings.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Inspect plate for marking, surface defects, dimensional tolerances, flatness and edge condition
Use knowledge of ASTM standards to make grading and cutting decisions
Review customer requirements
Use work-station equipment controls to move or manipulate plate
Perform hardness testing in-line production flow
Enter product and testing information into computer application
Follow sample test frequencies and make sure the appropriate samples are being cut; use computer system to look up and check on ballistic testing
Use cutting torches and grinding tools daily
Perform detailed product audits
Verify measuring device suitability daily
Perform preventive maintenance on testing, marking, and grinding equipment
Other duties as assigned which may include, but not limited to, operating other work-station controls, crane operator, material handling and loading, lift truck operation, stenciling, die stamping, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
3-5 years’ work experience in a high volume manufacturing facility preferred
Experience working with steel preferred
Ability to read and comprehend ASTM and customer specifications
Ability to solve problems and strong decision making skills
Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification, decimals and percentages
Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and work in a team environment
Excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to stand firm on a critical decisions, even in the face of pressure
Must be able to work in an environment subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
Able to stand 12 hours per shift
