Quality Inspector - Rolling Mill at EVRAZ in Portland, Oregon

Job Description:

Our Quality Department is seeking a new team member that is a self-starter with good time management, multitasking, and reporting skills. The incumbent will work in a heavy industrial environment inspecting hot steel plate as a Quality Inspector. Working from production orders, quality control instructions and other quality documents, you will verify that all QC and QA requirements are met, maintain logs, key in results, and take actions to direct plate for maximizing the value of rejected material. The Quality Inspector will support operations in a variety of manufacturing settings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inspect plate for marking, surface defects, dimensional tolerances, flatness and edge condition




• Use knowledge of ASTM standards to make grading decisions




• Review customer requirements




• Use work-station equipment controls to move or manipulate plate




• Perform dimensional measurements on in-line production flow




• Enter product and testing information into computer application




• Follow sampling frequencies and make inspection decisions and communicate reactive suggestions to upstream production processes




• Use computer system to apply hold code descriptors for look up and further inspection




• Use cutting torches occasionally




• Verify measuring device suitability daily




• Other duties as assigned which may include, but not limited to, operating other work-station controls, crane operator, secondary inspection and disposition etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 3-5 years’ work experience in a high volume manufacturing facility preferred




• Experience working with steel preferred    




• Ability to read and comprehend ASTM, customer specifications, solve problems and strong decision making skills




• Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification, decimals and percentages




• Attention to detail and ability to stay focused when inspecting for plate defects




• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and work in a team environment




• Excellent written verbal communication, planning, time management, and organizational skills




• Demonstrated ability to stand firm on critical decisions, even in the face of pressure




• Must be able to work in an environment subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise




• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds




• Able to stand 12 hours per shift
