Job Description:

ERM is seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant to join our Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation technical team in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this role, you will provide project management and senior technical assistance on site investigation, remediation, and environmental construction projects for clients locally and nationally.

As a principal consultant, you will contribute your leadership, client relationships, and technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM’s business and client base, while networking with ERM's global Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation technical team and technology experts to share best practices across the industry. RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage and provide technical expertise on site investigation and remediation projects for a variety of clients with complex technical/regulatory issues.

  • Design and negotiate remedial solutions for contaminated soil and ground water, using innovative and emerging remedial treatment technologies as well as traditional systems.

  • Oversee multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables across ERM’s Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation service line (e.g., Brownfields redevelopment, site investigation and remediation, sustainable sediments, risk assessment, environmental construction management, site closure and decommissioning).

  • Plan and oversee field work, including sampling, drilling, well installation, soil, groundwater and free-phase product assessment, vapor intrusion assessment, remedial pilot tests, and remedial system construction oversight.

  • Appropriately delegate project assignments to project teams and mentor junior staff.

  • Coordinate with ERM offices in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe regions on national and international project delivery.

  • Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business to grow the Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation service area.

  • Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. 

  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or related discipline.

  • 10+ years experience working with significant industrial clients on complex site investigation/remediation projects under a variety of state, federal, and international regulatory structures (e.g., CERCLA). 

  • Proven business development experience for large programs/contracts and client relationships supported by repeat business, including established contacts.

  • Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and “people” skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of the local regulatory climate, with proven negotiation skills with state and local regulators.

  • Environmental field work experience and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the local marketplace.

  • Professional engineer or geologist certification in California preferred.

  • Local candidates preferred.

For the Principal Environmental Consultant, Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation (Mid-Senior Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $104,448 – $132,746.  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.  This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
