We are looking for a Marketing Copywriter to create compelling, persuasive, and effective marketing materials that communicates the value and benefits of our products, services, and brand. You will be responsible for working closely with the marketing and creative teams to understand Empower FCU's brand and messaging and using data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of your writing. You will also assist with copy for various marketing channels such as websites, advertisements, social media, email campaigns, and more. Your goal will be to captivate our target audiences and drive brand awareness through your impactful writing!


 


The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing copywriting, strong writing and editing skills, and a deep understanding of the Credit Union's target audience and goals.


 


The Marketing Copywriter will also perform a variety of marketing functions including supporting internal communications and the efforts of the department by collaborating with key stakeholder to develop clear and concise messaging that engages our members, prospective members and internal employees.


 


Empower FCU is based in Syracuse, New York. This is a hybrid-role which requires 5 on-site days per month.


 


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Content Creation:



  • Develop high-quality, compelling, and effective written content that aligns with Empower's brand, tone, style and messaging guidelines. This includes but is not limited to -- headlines, taglines, product & service descriptions, website copy, blog posts, social media posts, email campaigns, and other marketing materials.

  • Writes and edits copy for a range of internal communications and marketing materials intended for internal and external target audiences.

  • Be familiar with current search engine optimized and conversion-optimized keyword copywriting for websites, landing pages, banners, and social media.

  • Interpret creative briefs to understand project requirements.

Brand Voice & Messaging:



  • Understand and maintain consistency with Empower's brand voice, tone, and messaging across all our communication channels.

  • Work closely with the marketing and creative teams to mold, understand and improve the company’s brand and messaging, and create copy that aligns with the brand.

Target Audience Analysis & Market/Industry Research:



  • Conduct research and analysis to understand our target audience(s), their needs, preferences, and pain points. Tailor your writing to resonate with our members and generate maximum impact.

  • Stay up to date on industry trends (marketing & financial industry) and best practices in marketing copywriting

  • Use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of writing, and make adjustments as needed

  • Measure and report on the success of marketing materials, using metrics such as website traffic, email opens, and conversions

  • Identify and resolve challenges and issues within the marketing copywriting process

Copy Optimization:



  • Continuously optimize copy based on performance data, user feedback, and industry best practices. Utilize testing and other techniques to refine and improve the effectiveness of copy.

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the company’s marketing copywriting process

Collaborative Teamwork:



  • Collaborate with marketing team members and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to marketing campaigns. Work closely with the creative team to align copy with visuals, ensuring a seamless and compelling member and employee experience.

Proofreading & Editing:



  • Review and edit copy for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and clarity. Ensure that all written content is error-free and meets the highest standards of quality.

  • Provide training and support to team members on marketing copywriting best practices and tools

Events & Other Duties:



  • Participates in staff training programs to stay current on credit union and industry trends.

  • Understands credit union policies and procedures and ensures that all marketing communications conform to applicable regulatory and credit union standards.

  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all credit union policies and procedures.

  • Assist the Marketing Department as needed for events, functions, and jobs as assigned to support and ensure the success of the department and, subsequently, the Credit Union.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Some travel and participation in credit union events is required.

Knowledge and Skills:


Experience:


Three years to five years of similar or related experience including:



  • 2-4 years' experience in writing retail catalog copy or similar writing capacities

  • Experience working in financial services industry preferred.

  • Understanding of keyword research, Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and team skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Knowledge of InDesign or other desktop publishing software

  • Excellent command of the English language, including spelling, grammar, and syntax

  • Good inductive and deductive reasoning ability

  • Ability to work constructively in a creative team environment where brainstorming and collaboration are standard procedure


Education:


Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field). Degrees in Writing, English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications and/or related work experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.


 


Interpersonal Skills:


Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving or obtaining information that may require some discussion. Work may involve motivating or influencing others.


 


Other Skills:



  • Must have good communication, organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of job-related computer programs (Indesign, Photoshop, Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Passionate about personal growth and learning

  • Ability to build strong relationships both inside and outside the credit union

  • High level of problem-solving capabilities, curiosity, self-motivation, and adaptability

  • Creativity and innovation for finding new and more efficient ways of doing things

  • Excellent time management skills and exceptional attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; desirable skills include graphic design, social media management, event planning and coordination, retail marketing, video creation and editing, as well as experience with Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Strong relationship-building and teamwork skills with the ability to develop and maintain consultative relationships with team members and business partners.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work cross-departmentally to create media for various events and uses.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, prioritization and time management skills; manages multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated creativity and ability to think out of the box and drive change.
