Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to operate all three pellet mills at maximum efficiency and maintain required temperature.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates batching machines at the mill. Operates all 3 pellet mills at maximum efficiency and maintain a minimum temperature of at least 180 degrees. Schedules feed production based on what feed has been selected to be pulled and what will be pulled.

Communicates with feed dispatch on a regular basis to ensure there are no feed 'outs'(farms running out of feed for birds). Is responsible for checking the rolls and making the necessary adjustments to assure the highest pellet quality possible, and maximum efficiency. Batches feed for the pellet mills so that there is ample feed over each mill and no mill runs empty, except for feed change-overs.

Responsible for making sure all pellet mills, grinding, and batching are run in 4000 programs at all times. Ensures there is no contamination due to over batching or routing errors. Keeps the ingredient chart updated at all times. Confirms grinding is running at all times to ensure we do not run out of ground corn.

Monitors the auto-lube (grease) system. Transfers corn from the big silos to the small ones when needed. Monitors the downstream liquid applications continually and make the necessary adjustments to ensure correct application. Rotates all ingredient bins to ensure inventory is used on a first-in first-out basis. Keeps the control room neat and clean at all times. Works together with the operator and loader to communicate production flow of activities.

Completes required paperwork. Maintains the dry erase board in the load out office, in the breeder bay and the control room to ensure the correct feed type is labeled on the bin charts at all times. Completes all daily paperwork (pellet sheet, batching sheet, daily production sheet, track sheet, bin rotation sheet, liquid usage sheet, etc.) Conducts the training for new operator helpers.

Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Batcher Operator and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Must be able to lift and move up to 55 pounds from any level. Must be able to work in temperature extremes and in outdoor environment, on feet for entire shift. Must be able to work in a dusty environment. Will also be climbing ladders throughout the shift.

Travel: NA

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required.

Technical Experience: Must be able to pass a company issued forklift written and driving test if needed.

Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Minimum Education : Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.

Preferred Education : High School Diploma or GED. CPR certification.

Competencies: Communication skills & decision quality- Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
