THE POSITION
The Accountant I will be responsible for analyzing and reconciling expenditure and revenue accounts; assisting in the recordation, estimation, and accrual of various receivables and liabilities, and verifying availability of funds and classification of expenditures. Additional responsibilities will include performing balance sheet reconciliations, preparing financial forecasts and reports, preparing journal entries and inputting general ledger data into an accounting system. In addition, the Accountant I will assist in the year-end review of accounts, preparation of adjusting/closing entries, audit schedules and financial statements. This position will also ensure proper accounting of capital assets and grants, perform tasks related to banking, investments, cash flows, daily balancing of receipts, payroll and assist in performing tasks and special projects within the Finance & Treasury Services Department .
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate must be familiar with applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations and guidelines as they pertain to municipal finance, including GAAP. This person must also be proficient at performing financial research and have efficient report preparation techniques. A successful candidate will have knowledge of the practices of governmental accounting and public finance administration including budgeting, auditing and reconciliation; municipal taxation and revenue management. It is important that this candidate effectively sets priorities, organizes workflow and maintains organization of work records, while also being able to multi-task and manage multiple time-sensitive priorities.
