Position Title:  Principal Materials Engineer (Minneapolis Hybrid)


A Day in the Life

An experienced individual contributor and technology leader with responsibility in our technical functions to advance materials choice, selection, and filtration performance in our dialysis technologies.    Scopes, formulates, plans, aligns deliverables and/or manages projects assigned and collaborates with other stakeholders to deliver products to the dialysis community.  May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other more junior professionals.  The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies and quality systems, using materials and filtration knowledge as well as skills in bringing new technologies to the market.

Responsibilities:


  • Analyzes, researches, designs, develops, and selects materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design, fabrication, processes, and/or application in filtration and dialysis systems.   

  • Develops, analyzes, and applies foundational material properties and designs allowable, processing requirements and quality engineering specifications.

  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, biocompatibility, extraction, filtration capability, and definition and requirement specifications.

  • May review and approve material processing procedures and specifications and/or define external manufacturing support resources.

  • Support root cause analysis and processes related to materials. 

  • Document work in accordance with quality system requirements and applicable standards (FDA, ISO, USP, etc.)

  • Willingness and capability to apply knowledge and skills cross-functionally to support R&D programs.

  • Key technical owner to scope, communicate, and collaborate on technical goals and needs cross-functionally to achieve technical program milestones.

  • Coach and mentor early career scientists and engineers.

  • Ensure materials and related competencies are sustained and grown in the Chemical Technologies R&D group.

 

Must Have: 

 


  • Bachelor’s degree and and minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

  • Experience working through materials designs, choices, process needs, and verifications.

  • Experience in late stage R&D and launching products.


Nice to have 


  • Water chemistry and filtration experience

  • Experience in highly regulated industries such as medical device, pharmaceutical or life sciences.

  • Experience with DMAIC, Six Sigma, DMAIC, KT analysis, and/or DOE principles. 

  • Support and improvement of launched products.
