Responsible for compliance, that UNFI controls preventable vehicle accidents and safety functions to ensure that Federal, State and local regulations are completed in accordance with specifications. Conduct periodic audits to maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) and UNFI fleet safety compliance. Seek to continuously improve training, testing, insurance claims and reporting, with a goal of cost control and regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
Engages and collaborates with senior management and safety resources to ensure strategic safety improvement plans are appropriately established. Tracking in accordance with established company procedures
Interprets and implements Corporate and Regional Fleet Safety, Illness and Injury Prevention Program, environmental and Security policies and procedures
Develops and oversees driver Drug and Alcohol Testing Program and Reasonable Suspicion Training for management conducted at the DC Location Level
Appraises Computerized On-Board system (ELD); makes recommendations to senior management
Monitors Online Driver Qualification File System and makes recommendations to senior
management
Completes audit functions including verifying, sampling, reviewing, confirming, and reporting in such areas as D.O.T. compliance and Illness and Injury Prevention Program and security for Regional DCs
Champions safety efforts in communications at all levels of the organization from senior leadership to hourly associates
Collaborates with National Risk Management and Insurance carriers to monitor accident
assessments, costs and follow up on damage responsibilities. Serves as Fleet Safety/DOT expert for all claims in their area of responsibility
Responsible for implementing and monitoring appropriate UNFI Fleet Safety and DOT standards
Trains the Fleet Safety Coordinators, Transportation Managers, General Managers, HR Managers and Fleet Safety Managers on OSHA, DOT compliance and UNFI Fleet Safety
Develops and maintains working relationships with federal, state, and local environmental agencies

Job Requirements:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
Experience:
Eight years progressive safety or Loss Prevention experience
Knowledge:
D.O.T., OSHA, Loss Prevention and Environmental Protection Agency and State regulations and requirements
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Knowledge of tractor trailer equipment
Knowledge of Fleet Safety Management procedures
Understanding of required computer applications
