Job Description:

The University of Oklahoma is seeking a Faculty Professional Development Specialist to work with OU faculty to develop grant and fellowship proposals to a wide range of external funding agencies and organizations, including federal, state, and private entities.   


 


The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) provides support and skill development to help faculty enhance teaching, extend research and creative activities, engage in their communities, and foster leadership in an environment that encourages a culture of collegial support, inclusiveness, and excellence.  CFE is committed to developing and implementing useful and inclusive resources to support faculty as they work to accomplish OU’s mission “to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research and creative activity, and service to the state and society.” Towards this goal, this position will assist faculty with the development and writing of grant and fellowship proposals to external organizations that support foundational and applied research and creative activities in all disciplines. These activities may entail providing support for proposal and budget development, editing proposal narratives and budgetary justifications, and coordinating proposal supporting materials.  


Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Work closely with individual researchers and multi-investigator teams to produce grant and fellowship proposals targeted to a variety of funding sources.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet firm deadlines.

  • Facilitate team formation and conceptualization in alignment with funding opportunities.

  • Work with researchers to effectively include and integrate ideas and perspectives from diverse disciplines and scholars.

  • Provide guidance and support to researchers and project coordinators regarding grant/fellowship guidelines and procedures governing external proposal submissions and reviewer expectations.

  • Help researchers develop and apply the skills necessary to submit future successful proposals.

  • Develop timelines and track schedules for the development and writing of proposal documents.

  • Support proposal development infrastructure through creation of templates and guidance documents.

Required Education:  Bachelors degree plus experience.  



  • 24 months of experience writing, editing, and coordinating sponsored grant and fellowship proposals for a variety of funding sources.


Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the graduate degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.


Skills:



  • Strong communication skills that facilitate interaction with diverse groups of individuals to set expectations, secure information, clarify situations, resolve problems, and facilitate cooperation among individuals.

  • Effectively, accurately, and professionally communicate in person, in writing, and on the telephone/video-conference.

  • Communicate questions, concerns, or issues related to project clarity and responsiveness to funding program's goals.     

  • Ability to work on projects across the many disciplines represented by faculty at the University of Oklahoma, expertise in life sciences is of particular interest.   

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple proposals simultaneously, groups of people, and meet deadlines.      

  • Extensive experience with computer hardware and software for word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, presentation tasks/assignments.       

  • Able to maintain a strong degree of confidentiality, integrity, and good judgement.

  • Experience and success in writing, editing, and coordinating grant and fellowship proposals for a variety of funding sources.

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motion and sit for long periods of time. 

  • Standard office environment.


Departmental Preferences:



  • Master's or higher degree plus experience or Ph.D.
