POSITION OVERVIEW


The Lead Coordinator, Corporate Health and Safety (H&S) will report directly to the Director, Health & Safety. The Lead Coordinator is responsible for applying the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Company and in particular the value of Safety. This role contributes to the development of the H&S Corporate Vision and implements the agreed philosophy and objectives as set out in the Team’s Charter including personal and process safety management processes.


 


This role is enterprise-wide and supports the development, management and sustainability of the H&S safety processes, tools, and practices. The key imperatives include, but are not limited to:



  • Fostering an effective Safety Culture throughout the Company

  • Establishing and tracking key H&S Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Supporting the implementation of H&S Standards and enterprise-wide procedures, inclusive of training and competency requirements

  • Proactive identification and management of H&S activities in support of managing H&S risks.

  • Governance and Assurance in driving sustainability, lessons learned.


The Lead Coordinator engages with safety leaders and key stakeholders across the Company in delivering the requirements of the Corporate H&S team and the responsibilities of this role. 


 


KNOWLEDGE


Knowledge of governmental regulations and associated codes and standards inclusive of OSHA, FERC, USCG, DOT, NFPA, and PHSMA regulations, chemical and hazardous material management, and comprehensive health and safety programs. General understanding of all facets of LNG (or other cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids) transportation, storage and processing with respect to application of health and safety requirements, inclusive of office safety, from project development through operations (terminal and pipelines).  Knowledge of Operational H&S Best Practices; Hazard recognition, exposure and required controls; Safe Work Processes in personal and process safety, occupational health and industrial hygiene; and Behavioral Based Safety Programs.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Serve as a leader through influence and actions to embed the desired safety culture behaviors that deliver on the Company’s Values and that of Safety.

  • Lead the Permit to Work, Energy Isolation and associated Control of Work elements inclusive of the development, enhancement and maintenance of appropriate corporate health and safety standards, work practices, and/or procedures for enterprise use throughout the Company.

  • Support the development and implementation of H&S safety processes and practices applied enterprise wide to meet regulatory requirements, industrial codes, and standards, and strive to achieve best in class practices.

  • Support the sustainability of H&S safety processes and practices through working with safety leaders across the Company.

  • Apply governance and assurance practices in assessing and verifying the suitability of H&S processes, inclusive of H&S regulatory requirements, with identification of lessons learned and delivering continuous improvement.

  • Participate in functional verification process of H&S practices enterprise wide.

  • Proactively identify and develop H&S initiatives based on trending of incidents and near misses.

  • Support the implementation of enterprise-wide key Safety processes which include but not limited to H&S Standards such as Risk Management, Incident Management, Management of Change, Contractor Management, H&S Assurance, Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Response, Process Safety Management and Safety Performance Reporting

  • Lead the implementation of enterprise-wide key H&S Standards and associated Procedures associated with Occupational Health and Safety

  • Assist in the training and ongoing competency of the workforce in H&S practices as assigned.

  • Lead training and ongoing competency of the workforce in Occupational Health and Safety practices.

  • Member of the H&S Enterprise Safety Committee and contribute to the consistent application of H&S practices enterprise wide.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS)




  • Education and Certifications:  Bachelor’s degree preferred in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, related Occupational Health & Safety studies or other equivalent bachelor’s level education in science-based field, with approximately ten years of progressive experience in Health & Safety leadership supporting an LNG, gas processing and/or industrial petrochemical facility(ies).


Relevant certification(s) in Health and Safety discipline, for example, CSP, CIH, preferred.




  • Experience:  Typically, ten (10) years of related Health & Safety operational experience in the oil and gas industry with preferred experience demonstrating increasing responsibility and leadership. H&S experience in an industrial based environment. Experience supporting the development, implementation and continuous improvement of H&S processes and practices in an operational environment. 

  • Skills

  • Strong safety Leadership and administrative abilities are required.

    • Able to identify and articulate health and safety issues in a hazardous environment and suggest practical mitigation measures.

    • Competency in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines.

    • Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy. 

    • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.




 


DIRECT REPORTS


No employees but may include supervision of contracted personnel for project-based work.


 


FREEDOM TO ACT


Ability to multi-task and function in a highly dynamic atmosphere; must exercise discretion independently. 


 


WORK CONDITIONS



  • Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints, and is often dependent on input from others.

  • Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends. 

  • May be required to work overtime.

  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
