Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Orientation and New Student Programs (ONSP) will help to develop and coordinate student orientation experiences and oversee new student programs that enhance the growth and education of the student body. The Assistant Director, ONSP will help manage daily office operations and processes, support staff hiring and development, collaborate with campus partners on new and existing orientation programming and services, assist with unit strategic planning and assessment, and oversee marketing efforts that promote student orientation and new student programs.

Duties:


  • Oversee the development and implementation of family and guest orientation program experiences, along with ongoing support resources.
  • Oversee the implementation of new student program initiatives, including extended orientation, family and guest experiences, first-year and second-year programs, and support initiatives tailored to specific student populations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of all orientation programs, including freshman student orientation, transfer student orientation, graduate student orientation, international student orientation, and online orientation through collaboration with staff, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Lead and coordinate department representation at university-wide programs, presentations, and planning committee meetings. Act as the point of contact and unit lead in the Director's absence.
  • Responsible for providing supervision, leadership, and professional development for the Orientation and New Student Programs Coordinator.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external communications for the department, ensuring effective communication with both students and campus partners.
  • Manage department marketing and communications, overseeing print and digital program materials, marketing materials, departmental websites, and social media channels.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and ongoing development of office student leaders, including orientation leaders, office staff, and any additional undergraduate or graduate student staff.
  • Assist the Director with the management of the department’s budget, implementation of assessment plan and reports, program research, creation of annual reports, and participation in the strategic planning process. Perform related duties as assigned.

Required:
  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Education or other related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience working with developing or delivering orientation, transition, or retention programs in a college or university setting. This can include work with student events, student groups, student activities, or related experiences.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices.
  • Knowledge of budget management and fiscal responsibility.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and program alignment with institution goals and priorities.
  • Skills in collaborative event planning and coordination.
  • Skills in working alongside, leading or supervising student and professional staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, allowing for flexibility in response to situations.
  • Ability to examine student populations and interpret it into strategic solutions for department.
