Job Title: Lead Instructor - King County

Salary Range: $55,000-60,000

About the Position

The Lead Instructor is responsible for effective provision of classroom instruction and training across all Job Training & Education Centers (JTECs), general administrative duties as assigned, and for planning, preparing, and implementing daily instructional activities. The Lead Instructor will also plan for and deliver adult education classes, administer examinations, and collect and record data as it pertains to student progress. The Lead Instructor will integrate a holistic, student-centered approach to instruction and prepare students to become work-ready.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.


  • In partnership with the Education Administrator, assists in the design and implementation of education classes and workshops.


  • Monitors and assesses the effective provision of daily instructional activities of instructors.


  • Supports professional growth and development of instructors by sharing information and materials and providing helpful feedback and encouragement.


  • Assists Director of Mission Performance and Director of Operations in advancing instruction goals with a focus on retention, course and instructor satisfaction, and course completions.


  • Coach instructor staff in service areas to ensure highest level of service.


  • Researches best practices in field; creates and maintains specialized resource library for all instructors.


  • Serves as a subject matter expert in their craft.


  • Leads instructor team meetings, preparing agendas, facilitating sessions, answering questions, and preparing briefs as necessary.


  • Prepare and provide in-person, virtual, and/or hybrid instruction and administer examinations in various digital literacy topics to include a mixture of all Microsoft applications, Google Workspace, ESOL digital literacy, digital equity, and digital work readiness content. May teach other subjects depending on Instructor suitability and Center needs.


  • Administer appraisals, pre and post-tests and collect, submit, and analyze data via a web-based case management platform for program reporting.


  • Use effective, student-centered teaching practices and follow competency-based curriculum.


  • Create lesson plans and prepare course materials to meet the needs of diverse learners, including the integration of educational technology.


  • Provide tutoring support, job search assistance, and feedback to students, collaborating closely with Case Managers and Employment Specialists to ensure holistic approach to the student experience.


  • Collaborate with students, staff and managers to implement student-centered initiatives.


  • Attend required meetings, trainings and deliver presentations. Present special lectures, seminars, and workshops as requested.


  • Maintain student records and data to track student progress and retention.


  • Support the Center Manager and other staff in outreach efforts.


  • Observe and evaluate the performance of other instructors.


  • Demonstrates safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture; reports any potential hazards or accidents.


  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Science, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education. Master's Degree preferred, however lived-experience and international experience considered in lieu of more traditional, U.S.-achieved credentials.


  • Minimum four (4) years of teaching/training working with Adult Learners.


  • Experience administering CASAS appraisals, pre-, and post-tests.





  • Experience with remote instruction a plus.


  • Committed to working with and supporting diverse communities.


  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex ideas and tasks. Experience teaching/training students who may not have any formal education.


  • Must be committed to creating and sustaining a learning environment in which students feel safe, supported and encouraged; foster an environment that is inclusive, culturally rich, and bias free.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation abilities.


  • Willingness and ability to exercise sound professional judgement on issues of sensitivity.


  • Remote and occasional weekend work required.


  • May require evening instruction.


  • Must be able to meet travel requirements of up to 10% of work time locally and statewide.



Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:


  • CPR/First Aid Certification a plus.


  • State of Washington teaching certification/credential or equivalent a plus.



Computer/Technology Skills:


  • Highly proficient with web-based applications (Google Workspace), video conferencing, cloud computing, and Microsoft Office.


  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.



Physical Demands :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required sit for long periods of time, communicate with other employees by talking and hearing and to operate computer systems. Able to safely lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs., grasp, handle, finger and manipulate items; perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists, and arms, standing for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and written, including those who have limited English skills. Maintain reliable attendance.

Work Environment:

Office/classroom environment; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have reliable transportation, as this position requires travel to offsite meetings and events.
