Job Description:

Job Summary

The overall purpose of this position is to participate in processes related to digital communications and governance to ensure the continuous high quality and accessibility of informational content for IEEE.org, the corporate website of IEEE, and support written communication needs for the Experience Design team. The IEEE.org website attracts more than 8 million visitors annually as well as directs traffic to other websites in IEEE's digital presence. The person in this role will handle the day-to-day content quality assurance of content submitted by 40+ content authors in the content management system, Adobe Experience Manager currently (with a plan to migrate to another platform by 2025). Typically works cooperatively with stakeholders and SMEs under consultative direction. Work is generally measured by agreements gained with others to achieve objectives. This position works under moderate supervision and has no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities


  • IEEE.org quality assurance:

  • Handles the activities and processes related to content creation and production for IEEE.org.

  • Develops relationships with web developers, content editors, technical personnel within and outside ExD, and IT business partners to manage the business needs and user experience of IEEE.org through enhancements, site releases, and issue resolution.

  • Helps to write requirements for new or improved components or enhancements on the site.

  • Ensures continuous accuracy and consistency of informational content on IEEE.org in line with IEEE business and industry best practices.

  • Trains, consults with and supports 40+ content owners in maintaining and optimizing the informational content areas of IEEE.org using a content management system (currently Adobe Experience Manager).

  • Writes and/or edits short marketing content for IEEE.org when required.

  • Handles the posting of promotions on IEEE.org.

  • Helps update and adhere to the IEEE.org web content editorial calendar and release schedule.

  • Is available for the posting of urgent announcements to the IEEE.org home page, working with senior leadership when needed to coordinate messaging and timing when appropriate. May require very occasional weeknight or weekend work (approx. 1–5 times per year).

  • Digital governance-related communications:

  • Helps update the IEEE Digital Style Guide for web best practices and consistency in tone, brand compliance, and accessibility related to IEEE.org and the digital presence overall.

  • Evangelizes accessibility and user-centric principles throughout content projects.

  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to complete planned activities and efforts pertaining to execution and planning for marketing communications-related activities.

  • Works on projects related to web analytics, SEO, accessibility, marketing communications, and industry trends in the context of ExD operations and impact to the digital governance for IEEE.org and overall digital presence.

  • Ad hoc:

  • Proofreading and writing for ad-hoc communication requests including the Brand Experience Bulletin, InsideIEEE articles, forms, etc. to maintain unified tone of voice for ExD communications.

  • Interactions require the ability to negotiate and persuade in order to gain support for achieving strategic goals. Ability to work collaboratively with team members, other IEEE partners, vendors, and contractors in order to achieve goals.

Education


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Communications, writing, editing or similar field. Req


Work Experience


  • 4-7 years Proofreading, writing, and maintaining website content using a content-management system. Req

  • Less than 2 years Desire for additional certification or training. Pref


Skills and Requirements


  • Understanding of web content strategy and practice, website information architecture, web content publishing, user experience and user journeys, and accessibility.

  • Ability to strongly advocate for the user during all phases of website design and development processes.

  • Proficiency with enterprise web content management solutions such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), WordPress, etc.

  • Ability to learn/adapt to new web technologies and CMS solutions, as well as to train others in the same.

  • Strong personal project and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple, diverse projects simultaneously in complex environments.

  • Strong critical-thinking, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented wordsmith.

  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit content with accuracy and consistency.

  • Good interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to work with IEEE staff and volunteers at all levels to provide information, reach consensus, and meet defined objectives.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or other image optimization software is desired.

  • Basic knowledge of HTML is preferred.

  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment off-site/remotely with proficiency and efficiency when required.

  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with using Google applications for email and document management is a plus. Familiarity with remote meeting tools such as WebEx and Google Meet is a plus.

  • Previous experience enforcing a style guide is a plus.

  • Copy-editing experience is a must.

  • Some copywriting experience is desired.

  • Understanding of IEEE is a plus.
