Position Description:
The Buyer represents the organization in the acquisition and uninterrupted supply of materials and services required to assure on-time deliveries and client satisfaction. The primary objective is to identify and obtain the material and services that must be obtained externally. In accomplishing this, the Buyer will evaluate, and determine the best supplier, value and delivery for those products and services. Collaborates closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Finance to support the organization's overall plan. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager.

The Buyer will be responsible for the following activities over and above that of a buyer:


  • Initiates strategic cost saving purchasing initiatives, capable of developing plan and executing.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and conducts meetings with suppliers. Follows up with meeting notes and facilitates actions that come from the meeting.
  • Position may require some travel to support supplier visits, research, and training efforts, both locally and outside of the local area. Must have a valid driver's license and be qualified to rent vehicles and travel domestically and internationally.
  • Responsible for successfully delivering on department KPI's revolving around cost savings, inventory reduction, supplier OTD initiatives and supplier development initiatives.
  • Provide all necessary NPI support to the business and supplier identification.
  • Participate in all Make/Buy kickoff meetings.
  • Manage implementation and transitions of parts to the best price and quality supplier.
  • Manage implementation and transitions to alternate suppliers to reduce risk of supply for Rotron.
  • Develop consignment, LTA, and blanket purchase agreements.
  • Utilize EDI whenever possible to improve supplier visibility of backlog and supporting inventory.
  • Understand and comply with ITAR requirements to create foreign supplier's channels for goods, in an approved supply chain zone. Follow Ametek Export/Import policies.
  • Manage sourcing activity, to ensure alignment to the company's Commercial Business Plan as it relates to SBA.
  • Manage supplier's quality issues, working with Rotron quality and engineering. Manage and reduce cost of quality from key, top suppliers.
  • Develop and initiate continuous improvement with key suppliers.
  • Stays current with market conditions and initiates communication and action with team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clearly communicate with suppliers to obtain product or service information such as price, quality, availability, and delivery schedule
  • Manages supplier relationships and maintains alternative sourcing available to provide optimal benefits to the organization
  • Works with engineering on new product introductions, including early supplier involvement and to provide material pricing.
  • Maintains accuracy of standard costing for new items and for items requiring annual cost update.

  • Negotiates with suppliers and utilizes best principle practices as a representative of the organization
    Reports on price variances and support material cost variance analysis.
  • Supports organizational Working Capital targets and negotiate best payment terms
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable materials or services with quality control personnel, manufacturing team members, suppliers and others to determine source of trouble, take corrective action and pursue vendor returns and credits
  • Implements material substitutions as needed, coordinating these with Engineering and Production to ensure inventory accuracy and customer compliance.
  • Manages and continuously reviews the Purchase Order System (MRP), to ensure it is accurate, up to date and consistently meets the requirements of the organization to ensure appropriate delivery dates including all outside service PO's.
  • Facilitates achievement of +99% On-Time Delivery, with no part shortages that result in line stoppages
  • Acts as the liaison between Sales, Production, Shipping/Receiving, Quality Control, Finance and Engineering on all matters involving materials purchases that involve production and achievement of the shipping plan
  • Maintains current knowledge for this position and within the work area through continuing education, subscriptions, certifications and memberships. Specific areas of expertise include ERP Systems, and LEAN/Six Sigma principles and practices.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or equivalent from four-year College in business or supply chain or 5 years of purchasing experience.
  • One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Due to ITAR restrictions and export license may be required.

    COMPUTER SKILLS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Word, Excel (power user), and Power Point and Oracle. Proficient in data analysis and data manipulation from database extracts.

    TRAVEL
    Position may require some travel to support supplier visits, research and training efforts, both locally and outside of the local area. Must have a valid driver's license and be qualified to rent vehicles and travel domestically and internationally. Travel up to 15%.



Compensation

Salary Minimum: $70,000

Salary Maximum: $90,000
