If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! The Kent County YMCA is currently accepting applications for summer 2024 Jr. Camp Counselors. Full and part time positions are available but limited, so don't wait to apply!

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the group counselors, the Junior Camp Counselor assists with daily group activities, including swimming, sports, archery, arts & crafts and more. Jr. Counselors help to play games and keep campers engaged. Responsibilities will include helping to lead and support campers as they participate in age-appropriate activities. Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents. Cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepare and set up various activities, games, and equipment.
Assist Camp Counselors with the preparation and implementation of age-appropriate group activities with campers, including both small and large group activities (i.e., sign-in, out/circle time/community time/enrichment activities/asset development/games & crafts).Be a positive role model; earn respect through action from campers, staff & parents. Understand that you represent the YMCA and maintain a positive disposition, demeanor and attire.Continually promote the values of inclusion and equity among all participants.Motivate campers to enthusiastically participate in all camp activities and events.Adapt to evolving responsibilities, as directed by camp leadership.
Actively participate in pre-camp training.Assist with facility maintenance and cleanliness.Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 16 years of age.Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.Positive role model with strong leadership, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills.
Certifications required before working with children: Child Abuse Prevention Training, all RI DHS and MA EEC requirements including comprehensive background checks. YMCA approved basic lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a fast-paced school environment. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise childrens activities.
Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
This job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
This job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.
Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
The incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, and the ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.
