Job Description:

In the role of Director – Global Compliance, you will be part of the Corporate Legal team, reporting to the Executive Vice President and General Counsel. The Director – Global Compliance establishes the Company’s strategy for trade compliance, developing and implementing policies and processes that align with the Company’s business objectives and ensures compliance with global import and export regulations. This position will also collaborate with other members of the Legal department on the management of the Company’s overall compliance program and shall lead risk management programs across the Company’s global footprint. 


Role Responsibilities:



  • Develop and implement trade strategies in alignment with business objectives and with regulatory requirements 

  • Assess current compliance-related resources, processes and systems and drive improvements to enhance organizational compliance and performance 

  • Monitor and interpret trade compliance laws and translate them into business practices

  • Provide regulatory, policy and strategic guidance to businesses on compliance with global trade regulations

  • Identify and quantify cost saving opportunities for participation in preferential trade programs and provide oversight of compliant implementation of programs

  • Investigate and resolve compliance problems, issues, or complaints received from governmental agencies, customers and suppliers

  • Partner across business functions to resolve import and export issues to conclusion

  • Ensure trade compliance and risk management regulatory reporting requirements are met

  • Conduct periodic risk assessments; identify gaps and areas for improvement; develop, implement and track appropriate corrective actions

  • Analyze training and communication needs, develop and implement compliance training programs partnering across departments to ensure implementation of the best practices and increase awareness and knowledge of compliance policies, laws and regulatory requirements

  • Assist business units with customs and trade agreement documentation and accurate classifications of commodities

  • Create, recommend and maintain process documentation on high-risk areas (e.g., international trade, anticorruption, export control, denied party screening, antiboycott, etc.)

  • Assist with the design, negotiation, implementation, and management of the global insurance program for all lines of insurance, both in the U.S. and foreign markets

  • Assist with management of the company’s business continuity planning activities, including tabletop exercises

  • Review and support key operations risk initiatives

  • Provide continuous-improvement knowledge, recommendations and tools regarding applicable laws, regulations, best practices, and performance standards

  • Source, design, and oversee compliance systems, tools and records to meet the needs of internal customers and in accordance with standards for an effective ethics and compliance program

  • Manage the administration of the Company’s Whistleblower Hotline and assist in internal investigations as requested 

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by senior management


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a degree in business, accounting, finance, law, (including MBA or JD) or a related field preferred. 

  • Five-plus years of experience working in compliance, including a focus on global trade compliance

  • Knowledge of harmonized tariff schedules, customs valuations, duty drawbacks, customs assists, and trade agreements

  • Significant experience with import and export regulations and reporting requirements and processes

  • Experience in heavy equipment, construction, or manufacturing industries preferred

  • Experience with global manufacturing, sales, distribution, and shipment of goods

  • Experience leading large-scale global project management, designing and developing training and communication programs, and taking concepts to execution, delivering results

  • Strong understanding of relevant ethics and compliance issues, laws and regulations

  • Experience in policy and training development work

  • Experience in corporate risk management and global insurance programs

  • Confident, diplomatic, professional and exercise great judgment in developing and maintaining excellent business relationships within the business

  • Strong teambuilding and leadership skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Team and customer focused approach to work - responds promptly, solicits feedback, while seeking a path forward that balances company risk and customer needs

  • Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events

  • Effectively navigates a decentralized and complex global organization

  • Willing to handle new areas of responsibility

  • Available to travel domestically and internationally (15-20%)
