Job Description:

Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Pastry Scaler to work on
our team making and baking hand crafted, artisan pastries
to be enjoyed all over the country!

What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?
Availability:

8-9 hour shifts, from 5AM-4PM
Full-time, average hourly work week of 40 hours
Weekend availability
Holiday availability
Full availability in October, November and December (we don't take any extra time off during these months)

Essential Job Functions:

Set up, break down, clean and organize scaling area
Able to focus and work in a busy environment
Perform necessary prep tasks including tasks like chopping, shredding, separating eggs and breaking down butter blocks
Scale/Measure ingredients, meeting time goals
Monitor and rotate ingredient levels using FIFO rotation
Follows ours and FDA traceability systems
Recycle and compost scraps and boxes
Support other areas on the pastry department (including the kitchen, the packaging area and the dishroom) when necessary
Must be able to understand numbers and number relationships (i.e. decimal points, fractions)
Must be able to speak, read and write English
Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respect
Work safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment and sharp utensils
Complete detailed training requirements
Attend and participate in department and business huddles (meetings)
Self-starting
Quick to learn and adapt to slight changes

Physical Demands:

Able to lift 55 pounds repeatedly during shift
Comfortable standing, lifting and bending for duration of shift
Comfortable with repetitive motion
Repetitive motion, with high levels of coordination, mobility, and dexterity
Must be able to prepare, scoop and pour ingredients, including but not limited to: mincing, chopping, cutting, dicing

Who are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredients to make our food.

Where are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.

Who are we hiring?
The Pastry Kitchen is looking for a full-time Pastry Scaler. Shifts are around 8-9 hours between 5AM and 4PM. We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and holidays. Food industry schooling, training or experience is helpful. We are looking for individuals who consider themselves active and effective followers.

What does the job pay?
Starting pay is $15.50 per hour.
