About the Role 

Essity Health and Medical is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern who will take a hands-on learning approach to the machine production process. In this role, you will gain a basic understanding of the converting machine by shadowing experienced technicians and team coordinators. Your primary responsibility will be to operate in a data-driven and evidence-based manner, assisting in identifying root causes of production losses on the machine. You’ll collaborate closely with an Engineering Mentor to prioritize work and apply Essity’s problem-solving techniques.

What You Will Do:


  • Identify and utilize machine drawings and technical documentation for learning theory of operations of the equipment.


  • Learn to use the evidence gathering tools (high speed camera, vision systems, etc.) for studying root causes.


  • Follow Essity Zero Loss Flowchart for stop elimination through creation of new operating standards.


  • Take ownership of specific stop / quality related improvement projects on the line.


  • Work with mentor to select a top machine stop and utilize problem solving tools to eliminate the loss.


  • Ability to work individually and as part of the support team.


  • Demonstrating a safe behaviour at work


  • Maintains high level of housekeeping and organization in your work area.


  • Works safely to minimize the risk of injuries.


  • Knowledge of Plant Safety Rules and Procedures


  • Keeping business plans and company /product information confidential.


  • Confidentiality policies and procedures


Who You Are:


  • Actively enrolled in an accredited College or University and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineer, or related field.


  • Has a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.


  • Ability to demonstrate a strong work ethic.
