JOB SUMMARY:

The Hardware Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electronic hardware for instrumentation and measurement of parameters affecting performance of infrastructure in the rail transportation industry. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Develop product specifications and synthesize solutions with other team members

  • Design and test electronic hardware for the measurement of parameters affecting performance of infrastructure in the rail transportation industry

  • Develop product validation test plans and perform electronic hardware testing

  • Responsibility for the entire range of hardware development activities, including strain gauge transducer design and selection, circuit design, schematics generation, PCB layout, BOM generation, and testing

  • Lead in-field testing and debugging

  • Maintain existing products including feature enhancements, replacement of obsolescent parts, and resolving other issues as they come up

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Electrical Engineering or similar educational achievement required

  • Three to five years of related experience required

  • Experience designing mixed signal PCB assemblies involving micro-controllers, A/D converters, and analog electronics required

  • Experience testing prototype hardware to ensure that it meets product specifications required

SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Detail oriented and analytical

  • Ability to operate signal generators, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment

  • Oral and written communications skills required for interacting with project management, operations, and other engineering team member

  • Periodically, the job may require the employee to travel to job sites; ability to travel internationally is required.  The employee may occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme cold or heat and moderate to high noise levels

  • Ability to travel to railroad tracks, less than 10% required
