Summary:

The Computer Operator is responsible for the overall monitoring and operation of the Health Plan computing environment for online and batch systems. The position is located within the Health plan's primary data center and utilizes a series of tools and processes to ensure the appropriate performance of the infrastructure and application environment. Additionally, this position provides 24x7x365 rotation support along with onsite departmental coverage during both core and non-core hours including nights, weekends and holidays as deemed necessary by Management.

Essential Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

All Levels:

Level I: Computer Operator


  • Provides overall monitoring support utilizing the Health Plan's Enterprise Monitoring System (Solarwinds), to ensure health of Mainframe, Network, Distributed, and Storage/Tape Systems.

  • Provides monitoring of multiple disciplines (Mainframe, Network, Distributed, Storage/Tape) using tools specific to each platform.

  • Provides overall scheduling support utilizing the Excellus Enterprise Scheduling System (Control-M) to ensure that system and application jobs are running within specification.

  • Provides Level 1 remediation activities (per procedure) for components within the Mainframe, Network, Distributed, Storage/Tape, Scheduling, and Application Frameworks at the Health Plan.

  • Provides Level 2 remediation activities (per procedure) for batch processing when applicable.

  • Escalates Level 2 activities (per procedure) for components within the Mainframe, Network, Distributed, Storage/Tape, Scheduling, and Application Frameworks at Excellus.

  • Monitors and provides administration support for Informatica.

  • Installs and removes hardware equipment.

  • Provides entry-level Windows Server administration.

  • Provides overall Computer Room Facilities Monitoring/Management to ensure that health of the overall Data Center Environmental infrastructure at the Health Plan.

  • Provides regular, accurate, and timely reporting on batch and processing activity.

  • Introduces small scale process improvement and documentation currency consistently to ensure accurate management of the overall computing and application environment.

  • Develops expertise in discipline specific activities through the Health Plan's Enterprise Monitoring Tool.

  • Consistently demonstrates high standards of integrity by supporting the Lifetime Healthcare Companies' mission and values, adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct, and leading to the Lifetime Way values and beliefs.

  • Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

  • Performs other functions as assigned by management.


Level II: Sr. Computer Operator (in addition to Level I essential responsibilities/accountabilities):

  • Supports/troubleshoots all software issues within the data center.

  • Assists staff members on all functions within the data center including new hire training.

  • Exceptional ability to multitask and handle multiple issues.

  • Leads smaller size internal projects as directed by Management.

Minimum Qualifications:

All Levels:

Level I:


  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant field (or two years related work experience in lieu of degree).

  • Related work experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, Lotus Notes, Print Servers, Microsoft Office Professional, Citrix, VPN, Internet, Intranet, Security, and mainframe technologies.

  • Ability to learn new technology and tools in a rapidly progressing environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on rapport building, listening and questioning skills.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills both technical and non-technical.

  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Proven analytical and problem solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.

  • Experience working in a team oriented collaborative environment.

  • Solid customer service skills.


Level II (in addition to Level I minimum qualifications):

  • Demonstrated experience in Active Directory, Lotus Notes, Print Servers, Microsoft Office Professional, Citrix, VPN, Internet, Intranet, Security, and mainframe technologies.

  • Ability to conduct independent research into a wide range of computing issues as required.

  • Mentor Level I colleagues.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to sit for long periods and view information on computer monitor.

  • Provides 24x7x365 support, some weekend work.

Compensation Range(s):

Grade 110 Minimum: 41,641.60 Maximum: 68,702.40

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position's minimum qualifications, in addition to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package.
