Job Title: Food Safety and Quality Specialist – Allergen/Sanitation
Department: Food Safety & Quality Dept. (FSQ)
Supervisor Title: FSQ Manager
Location: Ankeny
Position Summary: Establishes and maintains Food Safety and Quality Control programs, processes and procedures to ensure products meet food safety regulatory requirements and meet or exceed customer requirements. Provides support to operations in addressing food safety and quality issues as necessary.
Essential Duties:
30% Continuous Improvement and maintenance of facility Allergen Program – responsible for ensuring allergen programs are functioning and making continuous improvements. This includes writing, verifying, validating, and approving SOPs.
30% Continuous Improvement and maintenance of facility Sanitation Program – responsible for ensuring sanitation programs are functioning and making continuous improvements. This includes writing, verifying, validating, and approving SOPs.
20% Internal and External auditing responsibilities - responsible for conducting internal allergen and sanitation audits.
20% Manage new item set-up and changes that occur relating to allergens and sanitation – responsible for ensuring success and compliance of new items, changes to the process, label approval, etc.
On-going Duties
Foster team environment and learning – assist in tracking key performance indicators within the Quality Group and for facility. Share knowledge and assist in learning of department.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all tasks and responsibilities.
Responsible for reporting any and all food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action. Assists with any corrective actions.
Completes special projects and other duties as assigned by the Food Safety and Quality Manager.
Assumes the duties of the Food Safety and Quality Manager in the manager’s absence.
Minimum Experience: 5 years in food manufacturing quality.
Equipment/Software Skills:
Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Minimum Qualifications – Education, Skills & Abilities:
Associate Degree
Major:
Microbiology, Food Science or related field
Specialized Training/Certification:
SQF Practitioner (obtain within 6-9 months)
PCQI (obtain within 6-9 months)
Internal Auditor - preferred
HACCP Training

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Physical: Sitting, computer and talk on phone – 30% of time; Standing, walking, reaching – 50% of time; Lifting – up to 30 lbs. – occasionally. Job requires the ability to analyze data and other information related to a quality or food safety issue, identify the root cause of the issue, and recommend a plan for addressing the gap.
