MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR at Kent Nutrition Group in Sheldon, Iowa

Kent Nutrition Group (KNG), a member of the KENT® Corporation family of companies has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Maintenance Supervisor at the Sheldon, IA plant! The Maintenance Supervisor shall be directly responsible for maintaining and servicing all plant equipment and buildings.

This is a 1st shift, Monday-Friday opportunity. May require some weekend on-call hours and evening shifts as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:


  • Report any factors that may influence the quality and safety of the finished feed and ingredients to the immediate supervisor.

  • Maintain a regular equipment lubrication schedule. 

  • Establish regular boiler blow-down, water softener regeneration and boiler feedwater chemical treatment schedules.

  • Make daily check of pellet mill operation and care.

  • Maintain weekly maintenance schedule on all fork trucks.

  • Make semi-monthly inspection of all leg belts and cups.

  • Make regular inspections of all items of equipment, noting condition of belts, drive chains, sprockets, bearings, etc.

  • Make periodic inspections of all concealed equipment parts to determine condition and degree of wear. This shall include such items as mixer blade wipers, drag conveyor chain and paddles, conveyor hanger bearings and flighting, pellet cooler louvers, etc. Schedule regular inspections as appropriate for the particular item.

  • Make regular inspection of building to ensure proper pest and rodent control measures are maintained.

  • Maintain “Equipment Data Sheet” file with separate data sheet on each item of plant equipment.

  • Maintain labor and parts maintenance cost file. Record labor hours and parts cost on pre-printed forms.  Keep record for major items of equipment only.  Note methods, adjustment and steps taken to correct problems.  This will be valuable for future reference.

  • Maintain tag system on all spare parts.

  • Maintain adequate supply of food grade lubricants, equipment parts and tools in stock at all times.

  • Maintain file of equipment manufacturer’s catalogs and parts list for reference when ordering.

  • Abide by all maintenance safety rules. Instruct others of these rules.

  • Check all kill switches, limit switches, zero speed switches and bin level indicators. Repair as needed.

  • Maintain all vehicle safety equipment in working condition such as horn, lights, reflectors and mirrors.

  • Exercise extreme caution when cutting or welding to prevent fire or explosion. Use wet burlap to contain sparks if necessary.  Follow cutting & welding program.

  • Maintain all walkways, handrails, ladder cages and gratings. Check especially that these items are securely anchored in position.

  • Maintain guards on all drives and other moving parts that may be hazardous to plant personnel.

  • Regularly check all night lights and sign lights.

  • Must be able to safely handle all tools. This will require the ability to easily lift all equipment and materials as the job requires.

  • Provide “Maintenance Request Forms” for use of production personnel in reporting equipment operating deficiencies. Follow through on all requests as promptly as possible.

  • Keep Plant Manager informed as to operating condition and efficiency of all equipment.

  • Notify Plant Manager of abuse or mishandling of any equipment.

  • Notify Plant Manager immediately of any breakdown.

  • If maintenance duties cannot be taken care of on regular schedule due to breakdown or heavy work load, list all jobs needing attention and give to the Plant Manager. If possible, the Plant Manager will supply immediate help or schedule weekend help as needed.

  • Maintain maintenance schedule checklist.

  • Other duties as assigned by plant management.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must perform all work in compliance with OSHA standards and safety requirements.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Good communication, verbal, written and math skills.

  • Work and cooperate with all fellow employees.

  • Thorough understanding of cGMP’s.

  • Knowledge of HACCP Feed & Food Safety Plan.

  • Knowledge of FSMA.

  • Adequate formal training or past working experience as a millwright and welder.

  • General working knowledge of shop tools, power and hand tools and maintenance equipment.

  • Electrical and Instrumentation experience a plus.

  • Mechanically inclined.

  • Ability to work in dust and adverse weather conditions and temperatures.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 55lbs from floor to working height as job requires.
