Job Description:

Summary:

As the VALOR (VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service ) Manager you will oversee the daily operation of our Chandler, AZ based, 5G & Open RAN customer facing testing lab. You will lead a team of professional lab services engineers that conduct various testing activities. You will be planning and monitoring the day to day activities of the employees and assign tasks. You must have previous experience in telecom testing, ideally in 4G/5G and Open Ran technologies, in a lab environment. You will collaborate with other cross-functional teams to create and deploy test plans and procedures. You need to be able to communicate effectively and provide strong leadership to a technical team in customer facing lab environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities:

Responsible for monitoring and overseeing the lab infrastructure, personnel and tasks, including:

• Leading and managing a team of Professional Services Lab Engineers


• Installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of the lab infrastructure.


• Availability of the lab resources, including licenses, software versions and equipment inventory.


• Maintaining Test Lab related documentation, such as: Operations Plan, Data Management Plan, Test Plans and Procedures, Test Events Reports


• Developing relationships, interface with customers and 3rd party vendors and partners.


• Plan, organize, and manage testing activities & events to meet customer requirements and expectations.


• Managing multiple customers and testing activities simultaneously.


• Setting Lab Operational SLAs and KPIs for areas such as, but not limited to:

• Availability, Reliability, Quality

• Determine quality improvement targets and initiatives for year-on-year improvement to the agreed SLAs/KPIs, implement and manage plans to achieve these goals


• Reducing commissioning and installation times for new systems or changed configurations


• Effective management of spares to minimize lab equipment down time


• Conduct defect RCA for failures, and track for closure to inform future improvements

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Experience and Requirements

• 3-5 years experience managing a (telecom) lab environment - preferably customer facing


• Previous experience within Telecommunications Industry, ideally with network operators and/or supplier ecosystem for wireless technologies.


• Previous experience as a Quality Assurance Test /Systems / Solutions or Field Applications Engineer - highly desired.


• Previous exposure to the Telecom Test & Measurement ecosystem  - highly desired


• Strong analytical and collaborative skills.


• Strong leadership and general management skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities.


• Ability to conduct / lead technical meetings with Lab customers on small to medium sized engagements.


• Capability to clearly communicate with peers, team members, management and customers on status, plans, risks and critical issues.


• Excellent oral and written communications skills required, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.


• Comfortable with a highly dynamic and changing work environment


• Hands on, roll up the sleaves, proactive, technical manager.


• Proven experience as a line manager or relevant role, with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Experience in managing teams of 5 or more people.

• Forward planner with commercial awareness and strategic mindset in order to significantly reduce commissioning time


• Ability to identify and analyze a problem, take effective actions and understand the effect of decisions


• Strong, tactical decision maker with the ability to handle unforeseen circumstances


• Comfortable establishing operational objectives and pro-actively managing them as the needs of the business dictate

Education & Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Computer Science / Telecommunications or related area of study.

• Professional Certifications in networking, cloud, virtualization technologies – preferable

Tools and Technologies:
 

• Excellent Skills with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office Professional (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Powerpoint, etc.), and others


• Previous exposure to / experience with test automation tools such as Jenkins, Robot or similar.


• Previous experience with relevant testing tools from companies like VIAVI, Keysight, Spirent


• Hands-on experience with networking, Linux, virtualization and cloud based technologies.
