​​​​​ Position Overview

The Safety Coordinator will be an integral part of the field operations team. The position will be responsible for promoting the safety culture on assigned crews and projects. The Safety Coordinator will help model safe behaviors. The position will partner with field management to help drive the safety culture.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Assist EH&S Team in conducting comprehensive audits and foreman evaluations of crews to ensure compliance and help track corrective actions for areas of non-compliance.

  • Work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization; develop strong working relationships with field employees.

  • Responsible for timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company standards.

  • Assist investigation of all incidents for root-cause development to ensure unsafe conditions/behavior is not repeated.

  • Participate on safety committee calls/meetings and provide insight and direction on matters relating to safety incidents or preventable situations.

  • Reinforce policies and procedures that support the company's goals, the operations needs and achievement of safety results.

  • Work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization; develop strong working relationships with field employees.

  • Stewarding/Implementing Human Performance philosophies, education, & growth strategies.

  • Assists with workers' compensation claims.

  • Assists with scheduling required training for assigned crews.

  • Assists in preparing all notices required by OSHA, MSHA and other agencies.

  • Assist in maintaining, updating, and distribution of safety related programs.

  • Assists with all job site safety inspections.

  • Local travel to various work sites is required.

  • Support field managers as needed with safety and health administration needs

  • Report to management on all accidents, incidents and follow-up remedies

  • Ensure safety alerts and communications of all safety issues for assigned crews

  • Carry out all assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner.

  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required

  • At least one of following:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field

    • An Occupational Health & Safety Professional Certification (ASP, CHST, etc),

    • Three years of experience in occupational health and safety.



  • Knowledge of construction materials, basic construction specifications, and industry best practices

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong phone and typing skills

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record

Work Requirements


  • Must be 18 years in age or older.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as per company policy.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Safety Vest.

  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office and the ability to rapidly learn different software applications.

  • Strong communication skills are necessary.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to changing schedules and projects

  • Strong ability to research regulatory rules and regulations

Physical Requirements

  • Long periods of sitting and looking at computer screens

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces

  • Able to stand (for extended periods of time), use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, talk and hear

  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment


  • Will work in the heat and cold for extended periods

  • Job hazards may include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all weather conditions. Potential for serious injury exists if equipment is misused or safety precautions are not followed.

  • Fast-paced with deadlines.

  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but typically the noise level will be moderate.

  • Will occasionally work in office environment.
