The Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame seeks a skilled, collaborative, and service-oriented professional for the position of Collections Strategist. This person in this position will enable the Hesburgh Libraries to empower users with extensive and diverse collections, deep expertise, and innovative programs. With new leadership at the Provost, Vice President for Research, and Associate University Librarian levels, the Hesburgh Libraries are reenvisioning the future of library services.
Responsibilities:
Proactively develop and lead effective approaches to managing physical and electronic collections throughout all lifecycle phases.
Collaborate closely with the Associate University Librarian and Finance and Administration team to define budget strategy.
Participate in consortial initiatives related to collective negotiations for scholarly resources and shared print programs.
Collaboratively design models that promote and sustain content acquisition, access, archiving, and preservation.
Maintain positive vendor relationships and serve as the lead negotiator for significant deals with publishers and vendors.
Pilot and assess new collection development approaches using knowledge of the scholarly publishing landscape and emerging trends in publisher agreements.
Guide evidence-based collection development and management decisions.
Evaluate opportunities and make recommendations for redirecting the Libraries' investment in collections to resources with the most significant potential for transforming the system of scholarly communication toward the open dissemination of research.
Collaborate with subject selectors to document and align collection practices around a shared vision.
Track trends in cooperative and collective collecting and make recommendations regarding local participation and approaches.
Salary and Benefits
Faculty appointment, salary, and rank are nationally competitive with peer Association of Research Libraries (ARL) members and commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a minimum starting salary of $72,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Per the University's Academic Articles, librarians at Hesburgh Libraries may qualify for non-tenure library faculty appointments. As the primary library system on Notre Dame's campus, Hesburgh Libraries is a dynamic organization that features the flagship Hesburgh Library. Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program (or international equivalent).
5 years of experience in an academic or research library or equivalent, including supervisory experience.
Demonstrated experience in collection development and management in an academic library, including management of collection budgets.
Demonstrated experience in collaborative planning processes to inform strategy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of trends and key issues in the use of, and access to, academic library collections.
Demonstrated project planning and management experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues relevant to academic library collections.
