We are seeking a part-time, Community Outreach Intern for our San Diego, CA operations.

The selected candidate will assist Community Involvement Managers in developing and implementing communication strategies for clients. You will work internally assisting technical staff in communicating dense technical information to a wide variety of audiences on behalf of our clients. You may learn how to do the following:

• Assist internal teams and clients with developing communication strategies for contentious and/or high profile situations.
• Attend meetings, prepare meeting summaries, and track action items.
• Coordinate public meetings, including setting up meeting space, preparing agendas and public notices, sending meeting reminders, and preparing presentation materials (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, posters boards, and handouts).
• Support the preparation of fact sheets and newsletters.
• Coordinate the development of materials with technical teams, graphics staff, and clients.
• Address community concerns via telephone phone and e-mail.
• Maintain organized information repositories of technical documents for various projects.
• Produce documents.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Experience with public participation and or community involvement programs for environmental site investigations and remediation is desirable
• Understanding and experience with U.S. EPA's NPL and CERCLA processes is desirable
• Experience working with federal, state, and local agencies community involvement programs is desirable

In addition, you will have:

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with communicating on various social networks
• Experienced and effective public speaker. Comfortable presenting information in front of large groups (especially in high stress or contentious environments).
• Self-motivated with a "can do" attitude
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
• Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment

Degree / Certifications
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in Communication, Public Health, Education, Liberal Arts, Sociology, Psychology, Business, or Environmental Science.

Work Environment
This position involves general office work. You must be able to:

• Work weekends as needed.

The Hourly Rate for this position is $21.00/hour - depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
