What we do: 

The Legal Function provides effective, efficient and client-focused legal services to the Bank across all business areas and activities. The Enterprise Legal Services division provides a range of expertise in support of the Bank's mission and operations and is comprised of four teams: Enforcement & Litigation, Employment & Corporate Matters, Technology & Contracts, and Financial Intelligence & Investigations.

The Counsel will draft and negotiate contracts for the procurement of services, software, data, and equipment for all Bank business lines, including business lines that run critical technology products such as auction and trading operations, and advise on legal issues relating to technology, innovation, software development and licensing, data privacy and security, third party risk management, and intellectual property. 

Your role as Counsel on the Technology and Contracts Team:


  • Advise on the application of relevant laws and regulations as they relate to the acquisition or development of goods, services, software, and data by the Bank;


  • Advise the Bank’s Technology Group and business lines on legal issues relating to software development including Agile practices and contract terms, software-as-a-service, cloud services, data management and licensing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and open source software;


  • Provide legal guidance on cybersecurity, privacy, and third party risk management, including contract terms to manage risk and enable compliance;


  • Draft and maintain template agreements; review contracts, requests for proposal, and related procurement documents;


  • Provide legal support for a range of matters across New York Fed business areas, including real estate and property management, food service, construction and facilities management as well as intellectual property, publishing, and social media; and


  • Advise on legal issues relating to emerging and innovative technology products and services.


What we are looking for:


  • Juris doctor with demonstrated expertise in advising internal clients across the enterprise in a range of practice areas; 


  • Admission to the New York State bar;


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;


  • Demonstrated attention to detail and critical thinking;


  • Sustained ability to collaborate with team members and client representatives within the Bank and the Federal Reserve System with a solutions-oriented approach;


  • Strong drafting skills, particularly with respect to transactional documents;


  • Experience negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts; 


  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and team efficiency and effectiveness; and


  • A strong focus on client service.

Salary Range: $200000 - $230000 / year
