Job Description Summary

This position reports to the General Counsel and handles projects associated with various areas of law, including commercial and consumer lending, transactional work, regulatory issues, Fintech issues, litigation (including third party litigation) management support, and bankruptcy.  The candidate will work closely with all levels of management and staff, all departments within the company, and provide legal advice that will minimize risk and capitalize on business opportunities. The successful candidate must demonstrate the necessary legal judgment, legal discretion, attention to detail and problem-solving skills to support the business unit. The candidate will be engaged in a variety of transactions and legal matters.

What You’ll Do


  • Handle day-to-day loan related issues, including but not limited to amendments, addenda, question from internal and external clients, and communications with counter parties.

  • Provide legal support on a broad range of general transactional matters, including the growth and expansion of the company’s lending products and services.

  • Coordinate responses to and advise on third party discovery.

  • Support the business unit by drafting correspondence, providing legal advice, and communicating with third parties about the company’s collateral or rights.

  • Handle loan-related bankruptcy issues including, but not limited to, bankruptcy docket reviews, communications with the Trustee and/or opposing counsel, Motions for Authority to Procure Financing, Motions for Relief, and preferential transfer claims.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, letters of understanding, such as non-disclosure agreements, third party agreements, settlement agreements, vendor contracts, etc.     

  • Conduct statutory and / or regulatory legal research utilizing LEXISNEXIS and other search engines and provide recommendations to ensure the company’s compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Interact positively with regulatory agencies, investigators, and other parties related to the loan transactions by investigating and responding to complaints, inquiries, etc.

  • Assist in litigation management.

  • Effectively advise the business unit through both written and oral communication.

Knowledge/Skills/Background/Experience

  • 3-5 years related legal experience preferably in financial service, banking, contract drafting and/or insurance

Training/ Education: (Include licenses and certifications)


  • Specialized Advanced degree (PhD, J.D.)

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois (and in good standing with the Illinois bar) required

  • Advanced computer skills required
