Location: Garfield Township in Grand Traverse County
Salary Range: $85,000 to $100,000 plus benefits
Garfield Township, the largest municipality in Northern Lower Michigan with a vibrant population exceeding 19,000 residents, is seeking a dedicated Building Official to join our team. As a chartered township known for its suburban landscape and proximity to Traverse City, Garfield offers a dynamic environment for professionals seeking to make a difference in building code implementation and policy enforcement.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Garfield Township Board of Trustees to implement and enforce building codes and policies.
Conduct inspections and reviews of building plans to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards.
Provide guidance and support to developers, contractors, and residents regarding building code requirements and permit processes.
Manage permit applications, review documentation, and issue permits in accordance with established procedures.
Monitor construction projects for compliance with approved plans and regulations, taking corrective action as necessary.

Prerequisites: To be eligible for the Building Official position, candidates must have:
Registration as an inspector and plan reviewer for a minimum of two years.
Demonstrated knowledge of building codes, construction practices, and regulatory compliance.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
