About the Role

We are seeking a Data Scientist with experience creating and evaluating models for NLP. In this role, you will craft predictive models to analyze unstructured data from surveys, reviews, and other sources. You will apply your practical experience dealing with messy data, your knowledge of statistics, data science, and ML, and your willingness to write functional code to explore problems and uncover patterns in data. The required technical and professional qualifications may come from a combination of professional, academic, research, consulting, pro bono, and personal projects.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Engaging with business partners and team members to understand their challenges and translating them into data science solutions.


• Coordinating data science and data engineering resources to achieve business goals.


• Contributing to the end-to-end development of predictive and prescriptive models for marketing, sales, finance, supply chain, and other business applications.


• Exploring large datasets using modeling, analysis, and visualization techniques. Transforming the results into insights and recommendations.


• Applying Frequentist and Bayesian inference methodologies to experimental and observational data.


• Delivering presentations that tell a cohesive and logical story using data.

About You

• BA or BS in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Information Science, etc. Alternatively, candidates with at least four years of equivalent work experience in a related field may also qualify.


• Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.


• Two years of relevant professional experience.


• Knowledgeable in analytics, BI, statistics, data science, or a related area.


• Two years of experience with each of SQL, Python, pandas, and scikit-learn.


• Experience fitting and evaluating classical ML models in an NLP context (Logistic Regression, random forests, multi-layer Perceptron, etc.).


• Experience with topic modeling techniques especially BERTopic.


• Experience fine-tuning a pre-trained language model like GPT or BERT.


• Solid understanding of Git, GitHub, and GitHub flow.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MA or MS in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Information Science, etc. Alternatively, candidates with a BA or BS in a quantitative field, plus at least two years of Master's level equivalent work experience in a related area, may also qualify.


• Experience with Databricks (Workflows, Serving, MLflow).


• Experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, SageMaker).


• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning.


• Professional experience working in a client-facing consulting role.
